Elder Arthur Demps

Elder Arthur Demps, age 91, of Chester, Pennsylvania, went home to the Lord on August 19, 2023. He lives the legacy of “if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, them also which sleep in Jesus, will God bring with him. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” 1 Thessalonians 4:14–18. A time to be born: Arthur Demps was born September 9, 1931, in Shorters, Alabama. He was one of 16 children born to his parents, Honor Demps, and Rosa Lee (Harris) Demps. Arthur relocated to Winter Garden, Florida, and later moved on to Pennsylvania, where he excelled as a foreman in the fruit industry managing seasonal crews. Most importantly, Arthur was called by God to teach and minister to many in the Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Edgar L. Scott. He went on to lead many to Christ as pastor of New Hope Church of God in Christ, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Left to mourn Arthur’s passing: his son, Gregory A. Demps and his wife, Stacy (Raney) Demps; his daughter, Norretta F. Bastin, all of Newark, DE; three beloved grandchildren: Kasley D. Demps and wife, Jennifer Demps of Waynesboro, PA:, Natalia S.M. Magruder of Newark, DE, and Tyrus E. A. Bastin and wife, Jessica Bastin, of Phoenix, AZ; Five great grandchildren: Kheeliá Demps and Kheera Demps of Waynesboro, PA, and Savannah Bastin, Marcus Bastin, and Aubrey Bastin of Phoenix, AZ; Arthur’s siblings: Inez M. Riley of Plymouth, FL, Willie Nell Miller of Orlando, FL, Tommie Jean Williams of Plymouth, FL, Rev. Anderson Demps of Miami, FL, Terry Lee Demps of Opoka, FL, and Georgia Ann Demps of Orlando, FL; along with a host of extended family and friends. Arthur was preceded in death by two wives: Mattie Ruth (Hawkins) Demps, and Mary (Tasker) Demps; his daughter, Shirley (Hawkins) Glasgow and her husband Gerald St. Clair Glasgow; his twin brother, Eddie Demps, other siblings: Honor Demps Jr., Leon Demps, Jim Henry Demps, Waddy Demps, Georgia Bell Demps, and two baby Demps, who returned to Heaven before birth. Your outpouring prayers, love, kindness, and support has sustained us throughout the passing of our loved one. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you.
