Claramma V. Kalapurackal

“I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live.” (John 11:25) Claramma K. V. Chekkayil, fondly known as Baby Teacher, was born on February 25, 1942, and passed away on June 3, 2024. She was the beloved daughter of Thomas Varkey and Aleymma Varkey Kalapurackal, and the cherished third child among six siblings: Sister Ammini (Sr. Baptista, Pondicherry Convent), Babychen (late), Jose (late), Papachen (late), and Thomachen. After completing her high school education, Claramma specialized in the Malayalam language and pursued a distinguished career as a high school Malayalam teacher at Champakulam, Kainakary, and Edathua schools under the Changanacherry Arch Diocese. In 1966, Claramma married C.V. Chacko Chekkayil, an industrial officer. Together, they were blessed with four children: Jojilal (late), Sibilal (late), Bensilal (USA), and Sr. Blessy (Apostolic Oblates, Kottayam). Claramma had a deep passion for leading children in faith-based activities. She was an animator for KCSL, a Sunday school teacher for over twenty-five years, and an active member of the Edathua Palli Committee, Mathrujyothis, Franciscan Third Order, and various ward-based church groups. Her dedication to the church was evident in her daily attendance at Holy Mass and her role in leading Eucharistic Adoration with reflective Bible passages and songs. A talented speaker, Claramma received the Best Teacher Award from Changanacherry Corporate Management in the 1990s. She was known for her compassion, generosity, and unwavering respect for Bishops, Priests, and Religious Sisters. Her deep devotion to Mother Mary and St. Francis of Assisi was a cornerstone of her faith. Claramma is survived by her son, Bensilal; daughter, Sr. Blessy; daughter-in-law, Bency; and seven grandchildren: Sharon George, Shone George, Francis Chacko, Clara Chacko, Thomas Chacko, Angel Chacko, and George Chacko. For the past fifteen years of her retirement, she resided in Newark, Delaware, USA, where she found joy and fellowship within the mission community and prayer group. The mission family members and their children lovingly called her Claramma Amachi and cherished their time with her. Claramma K. V. Chekkayil's memory will forever live in the hearts of all who knew her. Her legacy of faith, love, and generosity will continue to inspire and guide us. She will never be forgotten. A viewing will be held Sunday, June 9, 2024, from 3-4 PM at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a service at 4 PM. Another viewing will be held Monday, June 10, 2024, from 9:30-10 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish 345 Bear Christiana Rd., Bear, DE 19701 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM.
