Kamal Maunda Dewberry II

Kamal Maunda Dewberry II went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. He was born on December 24, 1997, in Detroit, Michigan to the union of Kamal Maunda Dewberry and Melinda Parker Dewberry. He was the middle of three children. Kamal always led an active lifestyle; throughout his youth, he played basketball, tee ball, flag football, soccer, and volleyball. He also tried his hand at martial arts and was a recreational swimmer. Kamal spent his early school years in the Detroit Public Schools Community District in Detroit, Michigan. He moved to Wilmington, Delaware a month shy of 14 years of age, and graduated from John Dickinson High School in June 2016. Kamal completed one semester at Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, AL. He briefly pursued music production before ultimately deciding to pursue a career in personal training. Kamal studied for his certification in personal training before his untimely illness. He was also a skilled barista. Kamal Dewberry was baptized at Greater Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan during his youth in October 2009. As an adult, he joined the Holy House of Praise Ministries in Wilmington, Delaware. Kamal was motivated and had much independence; moving out and owning his first home at the age of 21. He was affectionately known as Kamal, K2, Mally Mal, Mally, Big Mal, Big Mally, Lil Geek, and Uncle Mally to family and friends. By his church family, he was known as Brother Kamal. Kamal was passionate about health and wellness. He lived a lifestyle based on health and wellness principles that he shared with others. It showed indubitably in his diet, hobbies, and fit physique. Kamal would often watch bodybuilding videos. His love for them showed in the poses he photographed. Kamal was fun-loving but could be firm in opinion. His smile was so memorable and infectious that it caused others to smile in return. He also had a robust laugh. Kamal was very sociable, personable, and charismatic. People looked forward to seeing him at work–colleagues and clients alike. Kamal also cared deeply for his loved ones. Mally was preceded in death by grandfathers, Verdell Smith and Mallory Dumas; and uncle, Delano Dumas. Mally will truly be missed by many. His legacy continues with his father and mother, Kamal and Melinda; his big sis, Darryl-Ray Daija; lil bro, Khalei Dewberry; his niece, Sophia; grandparents, Dora Parker-Smith, Rosa and Ray Dewberry; great-grandma, Dessie Parker; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. A visitation will be held Saturday, February 24, 2024, from 10:30 AM – 12 Noon at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd.
