Lois Kay Hughes

Lois Kay Hughes, age 65, of Wilmington, DE, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. She was surrounded by her children and family at her bedside. Lois was born on October 31, 1957, in Abingdon, VA, to her natural parents, Kemper G Hughes and Betty Jo Ramsey. She was a woman of strong faith and was a member of the Abundant Life Church in Bear, DE. Lois worked as a franchise retail manager for many years before she retired. Lois will be deeply missed by all who knew her and will be remembered for her endearing and welcoming personality, especially her smile and big green eyes. She had a heart of gold and cherished nothing more than spending time with her family and friends. Whether over a cup of coffee or a home-cooked meal, Lois made sure that everyone felt loved and appreciated in her presence. Her unwavering faith in God was a cornerstone of her life, and she never missed an opportunity to share the love and hope that it brought her. Lois had a special bond with her children and grandchildren, and she showered them with her loving spirit. Lois loved being out and about including the chances to be in nature, especially enjoying weeping willow trees and the beach. Her family will forever carry her kindness and compassion in their hearts. Lois had so much joy and was truly a kind person who would always do her best to help anyone in need, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know and love her. When Lois was asked how she wanted to be remembered she said- “I always tried to be an honest, caring and loving person”. Over the years, Lois was blessed with a congregation family at the Abundant Life Church that was full of love, support and compassion. Pat and Ed Kendall devoted every evening to calling her to pray and read the Bible to her. Lois is survived by her father, Tadeo and wife Margarita Collazo and family; her children: Freddie Hughes (Kimberly) of Largo, FL; Tina Hughes of Wilmington, DE; Ashley Jones (Dwayne) of Newark, DE and Heather Jacobs (Sergio) of Felton, DE; 19 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; her brother, Roosevelt Hughes; sisters, Patricia Rodriguez and Tina Dubet; and nephew and nieces. She was preceded in death by her natural parents; her first grandson, Josiah Vasquez; her sisters, Rosalee (Chrissy) Butler and Carol Veintimilla; and her niece, Kristina (Beanie) Hagdstron. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, from 10:30am-12pm followed by a service in Celebration of Lois’s life at 12pm at Abundant Life Church, 2744 Red Lion Rd, Bear, DE 19702. Interment will be private. Flowers are welcomed or a ministry donation in honor of Lois can be made at the Abundant Life Church, 2744 Red Lion Rd, Bear, DE 19702.
