Shirley Anne Gannon

Proud of her Irish ancestry, Shirley Anne Gannon 63, of Bear Delaware left the party of life with her Irish exit on October 12, 2024. She was survived by her children: Sara E. McConnell, Jesse L. Blevins, Jodie G. Blevins, and Kaitlin M. Joseph; brother, Wesley C. Pennell Sr.; uncle, Clinton S. Welch; aunt, Anne Mezzatesta; grandchildren: Kynan Howard, Mackenzley Gaskill, Mattson Gaskill, Stephen McConnell jr. Peyton McConnell, and Serenity Coy; as well as many loved cousins, nieces, and nephews, and a feline friend named Bella. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph J. Gannon, Deanna D. Gannon (Welch); her sister and best friend, Michelle M. Smith (Gannon); and her aunt, Shirley Leo (Welch). Shirl was born April 5, 1961, to Joseph (Joe) and Deanna Gannon and was the middle child of her family. She was named after her Aunt Shirley and her family called her Shirley Anne to avoid confusion. She attended Glasgow High School in Glasgow, Delaware. After the birth of her first child, she was a stay-at-home mother to her three older children. She did work as her children got older at Woolworth and she worked for schools as a cafeteria lady. Her favorite job was in management. She enjoyed management, having worked her way up to management she had compassion and understanding for people in all walks of life. Her hobbies included crotchet, genealogy, trivia, collecting Claddagh jewelry and memorabilia, and spending time with her friends and her kids. While Shirl would probably deny it, in her way she was a beacon of light to those who crossed her path. While she may not have had much materialistically, she would share or give wholeheartedly to others. Shirl may not have been the type of woman to have expressed her love with warm-baked cookies or sugar-coated words, instead, it came through her sharp wit and one-of-a-kind humor. She taught us that love comes in many forms, and hers was uniquely her own. A visitation will be held Friday, October 25, 2024, from 10:30 AM-12 Noon at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a celebration of Shirl’s life at 12 Noon.
