Adelaida Martinez

Adelaida Martinez, age 66, of New Castle, Delaware went home to the Lord on June 24, 2024. Lovingly known by her family as “Gladys” and to her friends as “Addie”, she spread joy to all who met her. Adelaida was born in Humacao, Puerto Rico to the late Secundina and Simplício Silva and moved to the United States with her family when she was a young child. Adelaida thoroughly enjoyed her work in the cafeteria at Cab Calloway school, where she was able to prepare meals and feed children - something she loved to do. Beloved by many, Adelaida was always there offering support, wisdom and love in abundance. Up until the end, Adelaida maintained her strength, appreciation of beauty, love of family and friends, and expressed genuine gratitude for her life. She was a beautiful soul and cherished time with her family and friends. Adelaida loved going to the beach, playing cards and board games, and doing puzzles. She was an avid football fan and enjoyed watching all of the teams and texting her family in the group chat about the games’ progress. Adelaida enjoyed dancing and was always full of joy and happiness. She always stayed positive and grateful, even in the midst of her cancer battle. She spread light, joy, and happiness, and taught her children to live the same way. Adelaida will be deeply missed, but forever remembered by all who loved her. Adelaida is survived by her four precious children: Idalia Martinez, Tito Martinez (Debby), Elisa Arno (Tony), and Diana Martinez; her sister, Norma Iris Ramirez; her brother, David Silva (Carmen); eight grandchildren: Kaylana, Brianna (Justin), Sarina, Mikayla, Julian, Lizzy, Pax, and Aria; and three great grandchildren: Eliana, Mia, and Azriel. In addition to her parents, Adelaida was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Roman Martinez; her sister, Carmen Gomez; and her brothers: Roberto, Luis, and Adalberto Silva. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 10 to 11 AM on Tuesday, July 2 at the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702. A service in celebration of Adelaida’s life will take place at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Cathedral cemetery.
