Alexander Daniel Bove

Alexander D. Bove, age 86, of Ocean View, DE went home to the Lord on July 30, 2016. Al grew up in Hazleton, PA and Maple Shade, NJ among a large close knit extended family. He was a devoted family man and always kept family first. Al met and married Gloria, the love of his life and his wife of over 65 years. They and their three children enjoyed many happy days together visiting family and relatives, camping, boating, fishing, waterskiing and clamming. Al and Gloria were inseparable and over the years also enjoyed bowling, ballroom dancing, traveling around Europe (while in the Army), and also in and around Florida with their large social network of friends. Much of the last 20 years were spent traveling between their homes in Ocean View, DE and Hudson, FL. Al and Gloria hosted many game nights with family and friends playing a variety of card games. Al coached youth sports and mentored many athletes in more than just sports. Over the years, he and Gloria enthusiastically supported the activities of their children and grandchildren, and were always decked out in their home team colors or event attire. As a talented builder, Al did many home improvement projects and additions over the years. He was also an accomplished artist and illustrator. Al was proudly selected to serve in the U.S. Army's Counter Intelligence Corp during the Korean Conflict. He studied at Drexel University (until drafted), West Virginia University (after the Army), and later in additional night classes at Camden County Community College. He went on to be a draftsman and lead electrical designer for several companies, including Campbell Soup Corporation, United Engineers, and Allstates Engineering, where he led contractual electrical design work for the DuPont Company. He retired in 1994 at the age of 64. Al was known for his charming smile and mischievous wit. He was loved by all and will be dearly missed. Al is survived by his wife, Gloria; his sons: Daniel A. Bove (Brenda), and Ronald L. Bove (Janice); his daughter, Bonnijean L. Porter (Michael); and 4 grandchildren: Jenny, Ally, and Becky Bove, and Annie Porter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Rose Bove, brothers, Leonard and Joseph Bove, and sister, Maria McElligott. Family and friends are invited to an interment with military honors on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 10 am at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2645 Chesapeake City Rd, Bear, DE 19701. A memorial service in celebration of Al’s life will be held at Bible Fellowship Church of Newark, 808 S. Old Baltimore Pike, Newark, DE 19702 at 11:30 am followed by a luncheon.
