Anna Okla

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, a remarkable woman who left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Anna Okla, age 73, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, September 24, 2023. Born in Bialystok, Poland to the late Stanislaw and Jadwiga Bagan, Anna came to the United States in 1986, where she left her career as a nurse to find the best world class care for one of her daughters at Nemours. She was a beloved wife, mom, babcia, sister, and friend to many. Anna enjoyed traveling to many places, but none were as sweet as when she returned home to visit her family and friends in Poland. Anna was an unique and spirited soul, known for her unwavering independence and her ability to march to the beat of her own drum. She had a remarkable sense of humor that could light up even the darkest of days, bringing laughter and joy to all in her presence. Her quick wit and sharp tongue could turn any situation into a comedic masterpiece, leaving us all in stitches. She was known for her remarkable determination and strong-willed nature, which she used to navigate life's challenges with courage and resilience. Anna certainly did things her own way, fearlessly charting her own path through life, and teaching us the value of staying true to oneself. Anna cared deeply for her family and friends, and her kindness touched the lives of many. Her candid and straightforward approach to life often served as a source of wisdom, reminding us to embrace our authentic selves and live without pretense. Anna is survived by her cherished husband of 52 years, Henryk Okla; daughters: Magdalena Elliott (Steven), Anna Resch (Jason), and Ewa Okla; grandchildren: Patrick, Isabella, Henry, and Lily; sister, Krystyna Pietraszko; niece, Aleksandra Rozanski (Russell); and great-nieces, Sophie and Charlotte; who will cherish the memories of her laughter, her tenacity, and the love she shared with all of us. While she may have done things her way, which also happens to be one her favorite songs by Frank Sinatra, it was a way that was uniquely her own and deeply cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her. As we bid farewell to our dear Mama we remember her with love, laughter, and gratitude. She will forever hold a special place in our hearts, and her spirit will continue to inspire us to live life to the fullest, just as she did. Rest in peace, dear Mama. You may have done things your way, but it was a way that made the world a brighter and more colorful place. You will be dearly missed, and your memory will forever bring a smile to our faces. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from 10:30 AM - Noon at St. Hedwig's Church, 408 S. Harrison St., Wilmington, DE 19805, followed by a memorial service at Noon. A burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Anna’s memory to the charity of your choice.
