Anthony Joseph Prizzi

Anthony Joseph “Tony” Prizzi, age 86, passed away at Crozer-Keystone Hospice Residence, Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, March 6. He had been fighting severe emphysema for several years. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Tony served in the Marine Corps from 1948 through 1953 and lived according to that code of honor until the end of his life. He had two successful lifetime careers as both a Graphic Designer and Sales Executive. As staff artist on the Marine Corps Leatherneck magazine, he created the cartoon character Moon Marco. While serving, he became a salesman for ALCOA’s Cutco Division, becoming Division Sales Manager during which time he was National Sales Leader for four years. Tony settled in south Jersey with his first wife Joie (Harper), becoming the father to Zandra Price (Chub), Pam Wicks (Dan), Kim Brophy (Jim), Tj (Patty), and Darin (Amber). In his second marriage to Elaine (Schlenker), whom he called the War Department, they became the parents of Derek (Melissa), and Daria (Stephen). At age 40, Tony returned to graphic design as Art Director at Goodway Printing Company in Philadelphia. For most of his years in art, Elaine, also an artist, worked with him, forming a professional bond in pursuit of design excellence. He was the principal of two art studios, and among his clients were the DuPont Corporation, W. Atlee Burpee & (Seed) Company, and Albert Einstein Medical Center. From 1976 to 1986 Tony was a Senior Designer at The Franklin Mint. Throughout his lifetime, he won awards for excellence but remained a humble man. His last position was working full-time as Client Sales Manager of ECRI Institute in Plymouth Meeting, from which he retired, after 12 years, at age 81. Tony was an avid surf fisherman. He loved spending time at his beach place in Rehoboth and planting his geraniums on the balcony, crabbing in Assateague, and tending his fish pond. He was charismatic, honorable, and known for his pursuit of excellence. Tony lived for two things: his work and his family. His loving family will sorely miss him. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Elaine; seven children; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 10 AM to Noon on Monday, March 14 at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd, Newark, DE 19702. A service in celebration of Tony’s life will take place at Noon. Military honors will follow at 2 PM at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, 2645 Chesapeake City Rd, Bear, DE 19701.
