Basil S. Savopoulos

Basil S. Savopoulos, age 86, of Bear, DE, went home to the Lord on May 15, 2021. He was born in Chester, PA to the late Sotirios and Eleftheria Savopoulos. Basil was a kind, generous, and loving man who was devoted to his family. As a dedicated Christian, he was committed to living his life for the glory of God. His passion was to share his faith in Jesus and disciple others to deepen their relationship with and knowledge of God. Basil was a Bible study teacher for over 45 years and was active in many civic, community, and church leadership activities. He led an active role in the Christian Business Men’s Committee for over 55 years. Basil was proud of his Greek heritage and was active throughout his life in the Greek culture and the American Hellenic Institute. He earned two Bachelor degrees and went on to serve hundreds in the community as a successful owner and independent State Farm Insurance agent. A devoted family man, Basil loved to spend time with his wife and children, whether at their Alpine Lake vacation home or at their property in Bear, where he shared his love for the Lord, horses, and nature. Basil is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Despina “Della” Savopoulos; his children: Deborah Sartin (Nimrah), Sotiere Evan Savopoulos (Susan), and Kathryn Heil (Gary); his brother, Nicholas Savopoulos; 6 grandchildren: Alexia Coppola (Vincent), Evan Savopoulos (Lynda), Rachael Savopoulos, Sarah Rosecky (Michael), Nathanael Heil (Melissa), and Alexander Savopoulos (Olivia); and 4 great-grandchildren: Anthony Coppola, Victoria Coppola, David Savopoulos, and Madeline Savopoulos. In addition to his parents, Basil was preceded in death by his sister, Kiki Savopoulos. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, May 28, 2021, at 10 AM at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 808 N. Broom St., Wilmington, DE 19806 with a funeral service at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Port Penn, DE. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, May 29 from 10:30-11 AM followed by a celebration of life service at 11 AM, at Lifehouse Church, 101 Karins Blvd, Townsend, DE 19734.
