Carmen M. Matos April 17, 1941 – November 13, 2025 Carmen Matos went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 13, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Corozal, Puerto Rico to Antonia Torres and Emiliano Rodriguez, she built a life marked by faith, resilience, and devotion to those she loved. In 1973, Carmen moved from Puerto Rico to Wilmington, Delaware, where she worked as a skilled and sought-after seamstress, especially known for her careful work in alterations. She attended Delaware Technical and Community College, studying English as a Second Language along with other courses, always eager to learn and grow. A devoted Christian, Carmen’s faith was the foundation of her life. She was constantly praying—for herself, for her family, and for anyone in need. She read the Bible daily, shared its wisdom freely, and lived out its teachings with gentleness and conviction. The glory of God truly shined through her, touching and blessing everyone around her. Carmen loved gardening, doing home projects and renovations, and above all, spending time surrounded by her family. She cherished every moment with them and created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love. She also loved taking long drives simply to take in the beauty of the world around her—especially in the fall, when she adored watching the leaves change and the scenery glow with color. She is survived by her daughters, Maria Haman (Darryl) and Lali Hunter (Leon); her sisters, Judith Mercado and Ludin Bermudez; her beloved grandchildren: Edwin, Erica, Amanda, Eddie, Selena, Christopher, and Nicholas; her 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother and father; her beloved husband, Federico Matos, with whom she shared a lifetime of love; her sister, Aida Rodriguez; her brother, Luis Rodriguez; her daughter, Evelyn Torres; and her son, David Galarza Jr. Carmen’s legacy of faith, strength, and love will live on in all who were blessed to know her. A visitation will take place on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 9:30-11 AM at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE, 19702.
