Cinda Calhoun

Cinda Calhoun, at the beautiful age of 90, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 17, 2026. She passed naturally and peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family. Cinda had grown up in the mountains of North Carolina, and appreciated her country-side upbringing. After getting married to the love of her life, John, they raised their children and spent the remainder their days living in Delaware. Cinda had opportunities to work in various jobs, including retail, switchboard phone operator, and school bus driver; though she retired from the University of Delaware working as the Events Coordinator. Cinda had 3 primary loves in her life: the presence of the Lord and gathering with His people, her family, and travel. She had 50 years serving faithfully at First Baptist Church, of New Castle DE, and has spent the last 11 years as an active member of Immanuel Church, of Wilmington DE. She loved traveling, whether that be spontaneous road trips to local spots, longer trips to the south/west, or her most enjoyed, cruising with family and friends. Cinda was preceded in death by her parents, Byard E Houck and Maddie Houck; her brother, Byard Houck (Judy); her husband of 60 years, John Calhoun; and her son, Joel Calhoun. She is survived by her two children, John Calhoun (Flossie) and Joyce Calhoun-Rice (Tim); her 7 grandchildren: Krystina Powell (Jeff), Jonathan Calhoun (Jenny), Sarah Calhoun, Megan Rolston (Brendan), Samuel Calhoun (Sydney), Emily Bailey, and Amy Bailey; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Cinda was beloved to so many and has many spiritual sons and daughters. A visitation will be held Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 10-11 AM at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a service in celebration of Cinda’s life at 11 AM. Burial will be private at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
