David C. Shepherd

David Shepherd, age 84, went home to the Lord on July 26, 2016. David was born on December 26, 1931 in Denver, Colorado. He graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in Political Science. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was very patriotic and loved all things American. David read many books about the founding fathers and the beginning of our country. A United States flag flew over David’s house, and every July 4th a new flag was flown, the old was properly destroyed. David was employed as a financial manager, department head, and deputy budget officer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, a nuclear weapons research center in California. He also worked as Chief Financial Officer for Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, a biomedical research laboratory. David served on the Planning Commission and Human Services Commission for the city of Pleasanton, California. After moving to Pennsylvania, he served on the Planning Commission and Historic Commission for Kennett Township. He was gratified to work for positive change and plan for the future of his community. David was a member of the Church of Christ for 35 years. After moving to Pennsylvania, he worshiped with the congregation of the Newark Church of Christ. His hobby was fine wood working, especially making federal style furniture. He made and repaired many pieces of fine furniture and lovingly crafted cradles for his grandchildren. He restored a 220 year old house, returning its Colonial, Victorian, and modern traditional changes back to its original period design. David was interested in history, travel, and politics. David was married to the love of his life, Vivian, for 33 years. They were blessed with two children, Lisa and John. He and his wife adored their six grandchildren: Alexandra, Caitlin, Valerie, Olivia, Zane, and Quinn. David cherished his family and enjoyed being with them and talking about life. He gave great advice. David was a good man and led a fulfilling life. He was loved deeply by his wife and family. His legacy will live on the lives of those he touched. He will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in David’s memory to the veterans organization of your choice.
