Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Giorgi

Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Giorgi, 85, of Dover, DE, formerly of Wilmington, DE, passed away surrounded by her loving family on January 29, 2025. Betty was the first-born child of six children born to Charles Singer and Elizabeth Ann (Mayan) Landis. Betty grew up in the city of Wilmington, graduating from St. Peter’s Cathedral School. She continued her education at St. Francis School of Nursing, graduating in 1960. She started her Nursing career at St. Francis Hospital and then went on to work at A.I. Dupont Institute, while raising 5 children. Betty was a warm and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She never missed an opportunity to dote on her grand and great grandchildren. Betty had a passion for the piano and could often be found playing. So Many Christmases were spent with family gathered singing Christmas Carols as she played the piano. Over the years it was the one constant in her life. It gave her and others great joy to hear her play. Not only for her children and grandchildren, but most recently for her newfound friends in her assisted living community. Betty was predeceased by her oldest daughter, Elizabeth A. Waguespack; her former husband and father of her children, Pietro A. Giorgi; as well as her brother, Charles “Fred” Landis. She is survived by her children: Peter Giorgi, Salvatore Giorgi (Donna), AnnMarie Paris (Mark), and Anthony Giorgi (Eva); her grandchildren: Salvatore Giorgi (Kat), Stephen Giorgi (Marie), Jeremy Butterworth (Felli), Nicole Matthews (Lucas), Amanda Butterworth (Steve), Nathan Paris (Rosemarie), Joshua Paris (Carley), Megan Goodwin (Sawyer), Seth Paris, Zachary Waguespack, Elizabeth “Beth” Waguespack; and 14 great-grandchildren. Betty will be missed by her loving and faithful: sisters Kathleen Wheatley, Joan Reader (Mark), Margaret Leonetti (Joseph), and Carol Mitchell; as well as her many nieces, nephews, and extended family. The family wishes to thank the team at Dover Place Assisted Living for helping Betty find a new place to call home with friends and family. The last few weeks touched their hearts deeply, especially seeing how much everyone there cared for Betty and how incredibly special they made her feel. The family also wishes to thank Mara from Compassionate Care Hospice for being so attentive to Betty and for sharing the silly stories of her escapades. A memorial will take place on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Strano and Feeley Funeral Home, 635 Churchman Rd., Newark, DE 19702. Visitation will be from 10-11am, a service will follow.
