Ellen Elizabeth Ziegler

Ellen Elizabeth Ziegler, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep with family present on November 10, 2023 in Boone, North Carolina. She was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Olivet Fasy Catlin and Joseph Catlin. Ellen met and married the love of her life Joseph P. Ziegler and together they raised their six children in New Jersey. Ellen and Joe moved to Delaware in the mid 1980s and were active at church and in their children’s lives. Ellen continued her faithful life as a widow after her husband’s passing. After volunteering at Little Sisters of the Poor for decades, Ellen lived there briefly as a resident before being cared for in her children’s homes. Ellen spent the last three years of her grace-filled and wonderful life in North Carolina where she continued to impact her family with her faithful witness. Ellen will join her loving husband, Joseph, and other family members in God’s warm heavenly embrace. She will be deeply missed but her legacy will endure. A lifelong Catholic, she lived a life of service as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great grandmother; but most importantly as a devout child of God. Even in her twilight years, it was very rare for her to miss a birthday, Sacrament or special occasion for family & friends. Ellen blessed countless lives through her steadfast faith, fervent prayers and unconditional love. Like a beautiful flower, she always bloomed wherever planted. She is survived by her 6 children and their spouses; Joseph P. Ziegler and wife Brenda; Timothy J. Ziegler and wife Nichola; Daniel R. Ziegler and wife Susan; Mary (Ziegler) Chambers and husband Steve; Catherine (Ziegler) Stearn and husband Ross; and Theresa (Ziegler) Collins and husband Michael. Ellen is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday evening, December 11th from 6 - 8 PM at the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702. A second visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 12 from 10-11 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE 19713 with Memorial Mass to be celebrated at 11 AM. A committal service will follow at 1 PM at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, DE 19701.
