Gary Dale Hewlett

Gary Dale Hewlett, age 64, of Newark, DE was called home to the Lord on February 10, 2023. He was born in Philadelphia, PA to Treva Hall Hewlett and Dr. Elmer Chester Hewlett. The family moved to Delaware when Dale was a toddler as his father established his medical practice here. Dale often fondly recalled his wonderful childhood growing up in Christine Manor where he and his siblings formed lifelong friendships with the neighborhood kids. Those ties continued into the next generation as their children befriended each other as well. Dale was blessed to be raised in the golden era of playing in the neighborhood all day long until the parents rang the bells to call all the children home. They forged lasting bonds that continued throughout their lives and are cherished to this day. Dale’s love of the ocean and fishing began during the childhood summers spent at his grandmother’s and uncle’s houses at his beloved Virginia Beach. He continued those summer traditions with his own family over the years. Dale was a strong believer in the value of family and friends. He was wholly devoted to God, his wife, his daughters, and his country. His love expanded as his family grew to include two sons-in-law and six precious grandsons, as well as his extended family. Dale always put his family first and was very active in his daughters’ school and sporting events. Whether it was Jasalyn’s cheerleading and volleyball games, or Markie’s field hockey and equestrian activities, or later with his grandsons’ activities, Dale was always present and involved, cheering for their success. Over the years, he was a coach and assisted with the Delaware Pony Club and the care of Markie’s horses. More than anything else, Dale enjoyed time with his precious family and many fun days were spent together on vacations, over holidays, swim parties at the family pool, and gatherings with extended family and friends. Dale was a patriot. He kept up with pending legislation and was a strong advocate for upholding the values and principles upon which America was founded. Dale had a degree in Political Science from Catawba College in North Carolina. He encouraged those values and love of country to others as well. Dale and his wife also instilled their Christian faith in the lives of their family. He studied God’s Word and put it to practice in his life. Dale had a strong work ethic and was an excellent provider for his family. He began his career in the business office of Churchmans Village Nursing Home which was founded by his father. Later, Dale owned and operated Hewlett Flooring Installations for 28 years. Most recently, Dale worked in Medical Logistics for W.L. Gore Company. This devoted family man leaves a legacy of love, integrity, service, and patriotism. His passing will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him until the day they are all reunited in Heaven. Dale is survived by the love of his life and wife of 38 years, JoAnne Hewlett; his daughters: Jasalyn Renae Alexander and husband Marcus, and Markie Marie Mitchell and husband Paul; his sister, Terry Leuci; his brother, Jerome “Jerry” Hewlett (Cheri); mother-in-law, Faye Michaloski; brother-in-law, David Michaloski (Debbie); six precious grandsons: Cayden, Maddex, Miles, Noah Dale, Cole, and Malachi; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. E.C. and Treva Hewlett, and his father-in-law, Walter J. Michaloski. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 10:30 AM to 12 PM on Friday, February 24 at the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702.
