Gladys A. Crossan

Gladys A. Crossan, age 80, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully from this world into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She passed away on September 3, 2016 from complications of liver disease at Christiana Hospital. A tireless volunteer, Gladys was a founding member of Brown Vocational High School Alumni Association. She was also a founding member of Good News Travelers of the Christian Motorcycle Association. As a member of Red Lion United Methodist Church, she was the president of SOS Vietnam in 1975. Gladys was a devoted wife and mother of three. She enjoyed sewing and was employed by Sew and Sew for several years. Gladys also worked for PNC Bank. She was a member of the Red Lion Evangelical Free Church where she was active as a member of the choir, the bell choir, and as a kitchen aide. Gladys enjoyed watching NASCAR races and she cheered for Jeff Gordon. She was an avid Baltimore Ravens fan. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family. As a committed Christian, Gladys was known for her love of the Lord and for her sweet and kind spirit. Gladys is survived by her husband of 61 years, Douglas Crossan Sr.; her children: son, Doug Jr. (Betty) of Seaford, DE, daughter, Lynda McWhirter (Brian) of Missouri, and son, Ed Sr. (Janet) of Wilmington, DE; her brother, Bill (Barb) Sammons of North Carolina; 8 grandchildren: Elisha, Jenna, Carol, Casi, Vicky, Ed Jr., Nikki, and Brendan; two great grandchildren, James Smith III and Kailey Crossan; and extended family: Valarie, Jeremy, Linda, Jason, Jailynn, Tyler, and Norey. Gladys was preceded in death by her mother and step father, Thelma and Ed Fogarty, grandparents, Rupert and Jennie Lancaster, Uncle and Aunt, James and Esther Lancaster, and Bernice Stolz, her niece. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016 from 10-11 AM at the church where they attended, Bible Fellowship Church, 808 Old Baltimore Pike, Newark, DE 19702. A service in celebration of Gladys’ life will follow at 11 AM. Burial will be at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
