Hattie "Catherine" Plummer

Hattie Catherine Plummer (known as Catherine), age 97, of New Castle, DE passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024. She was born on April 28, 1927, as one of eight children to parents, Jerry H. and Arindia Stallings in Wallace, North Carolina. Catherine moved to Delaware permanently in 1961 with both of her daughters Mary Williams and Laura Plummer with hopes, dreams, and determination to provide for her girls and stay in the loving support of her family. Although Catherine did not formerly belong to a church, she was a god-fearing Christian woman who was determined to provide for her family. She was kind-hearted and would support those who were struggling. Catherine was a member of the Wilmington and Christiana Care Hospitals staff, working as an aide and surgery support staff, respectively, until retiring in the mid-1980s after 30+ years. Additionally, Catherine sold Mary Kay cosmetics for a short time and joined Toastmasters. She believed in helping family when needed because she was a caregiver at heart. Oftentimes, she would care for her siblings when she was growing up and her grandchildren during her adulthood; not out of a sense of responsibility but out of love. She loved to do embroidery, puzzles, and crossword puzzles as hobbies. Catherine leaves to cherish her memories her daughters, Mary Williams and Laura Plummer; sisters, Mary Stallings and Dorothy Taylor; brothers, Sampson and Joseph Stallings; grandchildren: Ryan and Kalina Plummer, Johnnie Johnson III; seven great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; 13 nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry H. and Arindia Stallings; husband Roy J. Plummer, sister Leeumia Boatwright, brothers John and David Stallings, grandson Christopher, and a great-grandson who died after birth. Catherine leaves to cherish her memories, daughters Mary Williams and Laura Plummer, sisters Mary Stallings and Dorothy Taylor, brothers Sampson and Joseph Stallings, grandchildren Ryan and Kalina Plummer, Johnnie Johnson III, seven great grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, 13 nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024, from 10-11 AM at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a service in celebration of Catherine’s life at 11 AM.
