James "Jimmy" Silicato

James Joseph Silicato “Jimmy” “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness …” Jimmy, born August 5, 1959, in Downey, CA, went peacefully to be with his Creator on October 9, 2022, surrounded by his family in his home. He was 63 years old. Born to John and Theresa (DeAngelis) Silicato, who ultimately returned to their hometown in Wilmington, DE, where they raised Jimmy among a friendly and family oriented Little Italy community. In the tradition of the neighborhood, he attended St. Anthony of Padua’s Grade School and Salesianum High School where he and his friends competed in many spirited games. Of all the sports he enjoyed, he had a real passion for baseball and was a true slugger behind the plate. His love of being physically active proved to be a natural fit for the work he poured himself into. “Getting paid to work out,” a sentiment he often shared motivated him in construction work. A third generation plasterer, Jimmy learned to be a master of his craft from his father. Over the next few decades he did what he loved, running his plastering and stucco business that was well known for its attention to detail and craftsmanship. Above all, a strong commitment to his faith and his family led him through a full and rich life. Jimmy was married to his wife Karen for 44 years, raising four children and building an extraordinary life together. There were many trips to their favorite places like Ocean City, NJ and Lancaster, PA. His talents and tools were leveraged for many home improvements, creating a beautiful home for their family. He enjoyed sharing similar interests and experiences with each of his children in their own unique ways. From dance recitals, sporting events, movies and games, to hikes through the woods - it didn’t really matter to him what they were doing, as long as they were spending time together. He adored being a Pop-Pop, where his playful attitude and energy were a perfect fit for his grandchildren. Jimmy also enjoyed receiving special kisses from their cuddly little Chihuahua, Leo. He deeply cherished the time spent with his mother watching movies, playing Scrabble, and most of all, enjoying her cooking. They had a very special bond. Jimmy will be truly missed. Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, John J. Silicato; and his half-sisters, Robin Pagliaro and Denise Yarnall. He is survived by his mother, Theresa Silicato; wife, Karen (Serio) Silicato; sons: Dante Silicato (Gwen), Joshua Silicato (Lency), Justin Silicato (Courtney); daughter, Jenna Silicato (Joe); grandchildren: Isabella, Josephine, Emerson, and Oliver; half-brother, Johnny; brothers-in-law, Francis Serio (Lisa) and Joe Serio; sister-in-law, Rosemarie Propes (Robert); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many extended family members, and friends, all of whom will miss him very much. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” A visitation will be held Sunday, October 16, 2022, from 1-3 PM at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a service in celebration of Jimmy’s life at 3 PM.
