Jerry Wayne Harrison

Jerry Wayne Harrison, age 76, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Monday, February 10th, 2025. He went home to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the love of his life, Sandra "Sandy" Harrison. Born in Tazwell, WV on November 29, 1948, he was the son of William and Pauline Harrison. He graduated from Wilmington high school in 1968. Just out of high school Jerry was drafted and sent to serve in the Vietnam war. He served proudly with the 101st Airborne Infantry of the US Army. After completing his service, Jerry was employed at the former Stauffer Chemicals and remained at Formosa Chemicals until he retired. Jerry also worked at Friendly’s for many years and thoroughly enjoyed his job where he made many friends. Jerry was a husband, brother, son, uncle, friend, and father figure to many and will be missed immensely. Words cannot express the level of empathy Jerry had for others. His home was your home, and you felt it as soon as you walked in. Jerry was the most selfless man God has ever created. Whether it was a roof over your head, food, money, or clothing, Jerry would provide it. God only creates so many of these men and all of us were lucky enough to be blessed with Jerry's compassion and empathy. What Jerry loved most was his wife "Sandy". If you want to know how to be a good husband simply look at Jerry and the love he gave to his wife. If you want to know how to be a good father, again, look at Jerry. He was the only father figure some of us have ever known. His house was where we all went on the weekends when we were younger because we knew we were loved and cared for in his presence. Jerry was an avid Miami Dolphins fan and a lover of Nascar, notably rooting for Dale Earnhardt. He spent many weekends taking his son and nephew to the racetrack to share his love of racing. The love of cars was not confined to the racetrack as Jerry had tried to mimic many Nascar moves on the local roads in his 1988 Monte Carlo as well as his 1967 Mercury Cougar. His love also extended to trucks with his 2005 Ford F-150 which he added some modifications to the exhaust so it would be louder. So, in other words Jerry loved fast and loud much to the neighbor's dismay at times. Regardless of the loud truck and fast cars Jerry was a terrific neighbor, often making many friends with everyone in his neighborhood. Jerry had a way about him that made everyone feel like they were his friend instantly. Jerry also had a way of always beating the kids at a game of basketball, he had a hook shot that no one could stop. Jerry also loved camping. He and Sandy spent many weekends camping in New Jersey with Tammy, Fred, Rachel, and Jake along with his dear sister Elaine. In his later years Jerry spent his days and nights with the love of his life, Sandy. They were simply inseparable. They enjoyed watching their television shows wrapped in each other's arms. They also enjoyed the company of their two dogs which brought them great joy. Jerry is irreplaceable. His passing leaves a hole in our hearts that will never be filled. As his spirit will live on forever among his loved ones, we will remain strong knowing Jerry is reunited with his love Sandy and they are both in the arms of the lord. Revelation 21:4 "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death" Psalm 73:26 "My flesh and heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever" Jerry, you have been many things to so many people. We all have been blessed to have known you, to have been loved by, and to have loved you. May you be dancing in the stars with the love of your life. Our loss is heaven's gain, may you rest in peace, we love you! Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, William and Pauline Harrison; and his wife of 57 years, Sandra "Sandy" Harrison; his son, Wayne Harrison; sisters: Elaine Perdue, Linda Harrison, and Julie Harrison; nephews, Michael Perdue and Billy Perdue; great-niece, Maria Maldonado; and several cousins. He is survived by his sisters. Paula Smallwood (Steve) and Tammy Brown (Fred); brother in-law, Raymond Green (April); nephews, Steven Beltran (Courtney) and David Harrison (Amanda); nieces: Michele Beltran, Denice Smallwood (Adam), and Paula Perdue; and numerous other notable family members: Dajah Brown, Zyaire Brown, Jahsir Maxwell, JaVius Maxwell, Josh Dailey, Jordan Daily, Kylie Beltran, Shanna Beltran, Rachel Brown, Jake Brown, as well as Connie, Brenda, and Robert Smallwood. Jerry spent his last several months in the loving home of Marcella Torres and her family who cared for him deeply. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10-11am with service to follow at 11am on Monday, February 17, 2025, at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE.
