John E. See Sr.

John E. See, Sr. “Pop” Age 78, of New Castle, went home to be with the Lord on May 9, 2025. John was a loving husband, Dad, Pop, and Pop-pop, who was admired, loved, and adored by his family. John was the most kindhearted and honorable man who always tried to help anyone that he could. He genuinely believed that a cup of coffee and a conversation could positively change someone’s day. John was born and mostly raised in Newark, Delaware. John also spent time, in his early adult life, in the U.S. Army as a sharpshooter and served with George Jones’ nephew. While he never had the opportunity to meet the singer himself, he always shared with our family how George Jones bought all new boots for their entire unit. An act of kindness that he never forgot and always appreciated. When he returned home, he spent the next 32 years working for Chrysler, until he retired. After the loss of his wife, of 41 years, John found joy in spending time at his “ranch” in Chincoteague, VA with his two grandsons and additional family and friends. He loved going fishing, crabbing, doing some “front porch sittin”, and enjoying Mr.Whippy’s ice cream. Pop also spent time with his 4-year-old great-grandson, who he lovingly referred to as “bubby”, who filled his heart with joy. During John’s last few days on Earth, he expressed that he had a plan to “go down there” to have a beer with George Jones before heading upstairs. We imagine that after reuniting with his wife, who he lovingly referred to as “Margot”, they were finally able to dance to the “billies” once again. Although the world now feels like a lesser place without Pop, the positive and profound impact he had and knowledge he left with many, will always stay with us. John is survived by his children, Thomas See, Christina & husband Eddie Mitchell; his brothers: Norris See, Dennis See and Charles Burroughs; his sisters, Diane See Robinson and Vivian Wilson; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Peg) See; sons, William Barnett and John E. See, Jr.; his parents, Norris and Ellen See; his brother, James See; and his sisters: Jacqueline Patille, Deborah See and Ellen Wortz. A visitation will be on Wednesday May 21, 2025 at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702 from 10-11 AM followed by a service in celebration of John’s life at 11 AM.
