Joseph James Feeley Sr.

Joseph James Feeley Sr., age 84, of Claymont, DE passed away at home on December 23, 2022. Joe was born in Chester, PA and lived in that area until moving to Delaware with his late wife, Geraldine. Together they raised their five children in Claymont where they were active in their sports activities. Joe was a baseball coach in the Claymont Independent Little League and Babe Ruth League for many years. He volunteered countless hours at Dyer Baseball Field. Joe instilled his love of sports in his children and grandchildren. He spent many years running competitively in local 5K and 10K races, half-marathons, and marathons. Joe was proud to have competed in the Boston Marathon 7 times. He loved boating and fishing with his wife and extended family. Lots of fun days were spent on the waters of the Delaware, Indian River, and Rehoboth Bays fishing and water skiing with his family and friends. Summers usually involved an annual family beach trip to Wildwood Crest. Joe and his late wife Gerie enjoyed traveling to visit their grandchildren and faithfully attending their school and sports activities as much as possible. They also enjoyed going to the casinos. Joe was an avid fan of Philadelphia sports teams. If the Phillies, Eagles, or Flyers were playing, he was watching and cheering them on. Joe proudly served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He retired from General Chemical after a career as a laboratory manager. After retiring, he went on to work as a driver for river pilots with Dolphin Ship Services. Joe was kind, funny, and generous. He was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather. This devoted family man will be deeply missed. Joe is survived by his children: Joseph J. Feeley Jr., daughter-in-law, Karen Feeley, Deborah Jean Cintron and son-in-law, Edwin Cintron, Jerrold Feeley, James M. Feeley and daughter-in-law, Tracy Feeley, Jay R. Feeley and daughter-in-law, Lori Feeley; 9 grandchildren: Kristin Lenidrik (Tony), Jeni Feeley, Mathew Cintron (Stephanie), Ryan Feeley (Larissa), Jocelyn Feeley, Jillian Feeley Mahoney, Jasmine Feeley, James Feeley Jr., and Jayli Feeley; 5 great grandchildren: Atti, Kainoa, Skylar, Benjamin, and Grace; and a host of extended family and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Geraldine M. Feeley; his grandson, Joseph J. Feeley III; his parents, James and Margaret Feeley; his sister, Dorothy Poole (Claude); brothers, James (Anne) Feeley and Francis (Shirley) Feeley. Services will be held privately at the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702.
