In the early hours of May 19, 2022, in Newark, Delaware, a ray of pure sunshine graced our lives in the form of Joseph Michael Ascione, Jr., affectionately known as "JoJo." On the fateful evening of Friday, October 13, 2023, at 10:40 pm, our beloved JoJo peacefully departed this world, cradled in the loving arms of his mommy and daddy, while his favorite lullaby, "You Are my Sunshine," filled the air. JoJo, the cherished son of Joseph Michael Ascione, Sr. and Jessica Rae Ascione, and the adored little brother of Evelyn Rae Ascione, brought endless joy and light into the lives of all who knew him. He shared his days with his beloved goggies (dogs), Bobbie and Violet, and his gaga (cat), Nala. JoJo's loving family includes Granny and Poppop Joe, Mommom Sharon Ascione, Great Grandmother Mary Burnstein, Johnny Pop, Uncle Joe (Alicia), Uncle E-Rock, Sr., Uncle Mitchell (Rebecca), Uncle Jimmy (Amy), Uncle Anthony (Taylor), Aunt Angie, his girl Ang (Ethan), and a multitude of family and friends who held him dear. With his entrancing blue eyes and a crown of strawberry blonde hair, JoJo radiated pure innocence and exuberance. He found unending delight in the simple pleasures of life – the great outdoors, the thrill of playing in the dirt, and wagon rides. Anything with wheels, dogs, cats, and even pop-its held a special place in his heart. He was always seen in his cherished Crocs, a symbol of his free-spirited nature. His big sister, Evelyn, was his greatest treasure, her presence illuminating his world with boundless laughter and joy. JoJo had a language uniquely his own, a world of communication that we were just beginning to understand. Among his clearest words were "MOM!," "Dada," “uh-oh,” and his sweet term for shoes, "soos." In his short 1 year, 4 months, and 24 days on this earth, JoJo left an indelible mark on countless hearts. His ability to bring smiles to faces of all ages was undeniable, his charm had the power to brighten even the darkest days. Though the void left by JoJo's departure is immeasurable, we take solace in the knowledge that he experienced nothing but love, light, health, and happiness throughout his time with us. His radiant spirit will forever glow in our hearts. As we move forward, we carry with us a profound sense of gratitude for the PICU team at Nemours Children's Hospital.
