Katherin Marie Hindsley, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Newark, Delaware, on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at the age of 92. Born in Lavaca Arkansas on 1932 and raised in Modesto, California, Katherin lived a life marked by devotion, resilience, and unwavering love for her family. Katherin's life took a beautiful turn when she met Lawrence Wayne Hindsley Sr., a U.S. Marine on leave, on the back of a bus. Their love story began, leading Katherin to leave her California roots behind to marry Lawrence and build a life with him in Delaware. They shared a profound bond for 73 years, a testament to their enduring commitment. Lawrence, her devoted husband, cared for her tirelessly in her final days, a true reflection of their lifelong partnership. Before marrying Lawrence, Katherin was blessed with three children: Jimmy Martin, Craig, and Rita. While Jimmy was raised by Katherin's mother and later understood his connection with his birth mother in the household, Craig and Rita were placed for adoption, eventually reconnecting with Katherin in their adult years. The family cherished these reunions, particularly forming close bonds with Craig's children. Katherin and Lawrence welcomed two sons, Bruce (born 1955) and Lars (1965). Katherin held immense pride for Bruce, whose passing at a young age of 37 deeply impacted the family. She found comfort and strength in her youngest son, Lars, knowing he would carry on her legacy of strength and love. For many years, Katherin dedicated herself professionally as a 'cutter' at Wiltex, a textile mill in Wilmington, Delaware, until her retirement. Beyond her work, Katherin was a woman of deep faith and strong convictions. A lifelong devout Christian, her values were centered around her Christian philosophy, which guided her gentle yet confident nature. She was also actively involved in politics, showing her community spirit early on by assisting Joe Biden in his first political campaign, later evolving in her political affiliations, changing parties. Katherin’s home was often a bustling hub, a "busy train station" filled with laughter and the presence of her children's friends, all of whom adored her. She was the steady compass for her family, always offering meals, understanding mistakes with grace, and imparting values with unwavering confidence. Her thoughtful reminders—from "It's going to rain, don't forget an umbrella" to calls ensuring her son didn't miss the school bus (even throughout high school) —were a constant source of comfort and a reflection of her boundless care. One of Katherin's greatest joys in her later years was witnessing her son Lars marry Megan Kylie Davis in June of last year. Her approval of Megan brought her immense peace, and she passed knowing her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren were growing up in happy homes. She found success in life not through accolades but through her unwavering love, guidance, and the profound impact she had on her family. Katherin is survived by her loving husband, Lawrence Wayne Hindsley Sr.; her children, Jimmy Martin, Rita and Craig Imhoff, and Lars Hindsley (Megan Kylie Hindsley); her grandchildren, Declan Hindsley (and his children Noah and Penelope), Dalton Hindsley, and Leona (Megan's daughter). Katherin and her son Bruce are both survived by her grandson Bruce Lee Hindsley and great-grandson, Leif Hindsley. She also leaves behind numerous extended family members, including siblings, nieces, and nephews such as her son Craig Imhoff's daughters, Amanda Uribe, and Bridget Merideth (grand-daughter), Bridget's children, Dylan, Drake and Dakota Owens. Katherin's final days were spent at home, surrounded by the constant care of her husband and visited by family. She passed peacefully while receiving prayer from her pastor at Newark Baptist Church, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, and unconditional love. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 from 11 AM- 12 PM at Newark Baptist Church, 6011 Telegraph Rd., Elkton, MD 21921. A service in celebration of Katherin’s life will follow at 12 PM. Burial will take place the following day, Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 11 AM at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, DE 19701.
