Khamouane Loung Thongvong

Khamouane Loung Thongvong was born in Vientiane, Laos on May 2nd 1960. He is survived by his mother Leung, wife Chansamone, two sons Khamkhone and Vannikone, his daughter Sondarin, daughter-in-law Heather, and his two grandsons Conner and Cameron and a host of family and friends. In 1986, Khamouane left Laos with his young family to the Thailand Refugee Camp where they stayed for 1 year and then to the Philippine refugee camp for 3 months before coming to America and settling in Delaware with only $10 in his pocket. Within 3 weeks of coming to the US, Khamouane moved his family into their first apartment in Newark, DE. He was a hardworking man. Khamouane commuted to North Philadelphia to work at Cardone as a chemical operator for 30 years until he retired. Khamouane was very proud of his life in Laos and had so many fond memories that he would love to share with his children and grandchildren. In Laos, he worked for the government and loved talking about how he use to raise pigs – which is his youngest grandson’s favorite animal. As a young teenager, he played in a band where he met his wife – this is how she fell head over heels for him over the beat of his drums. Khamouane was married to his beloved wife for 46 years. When they came to the US he taught her how to drive at the church across from their apartment complex. Khamouane was a dedicated father. He loved his children and did everything possible to provide them with a fulfilling life. Even as adults he still would make it his routine to ensure that his children were taken care of. He would pack lunch and dinner for his son’s when they went to work. He got his oldest son Kham into his shenanigans when he got him to tag along while he went to secretly purchase a brand new pick-up truck! Khamouane made sure to always keep Van on task with getting the yard work done. Even if he had to face time him 10x times a day. Khamouane would stop by his daughter’s house at least 3x times a week to pick-up the trash, check the mail or all of her many shopping deliveries – (I can attest to this! I’ve seen him do it!). Khamouane loved his children, but there was no greater love than one that he had for his grandsons Conner and Cameron. Those are his best buddies. He would do anything and everything for them. They loved to stay with their Grandpa because that meant it was free time for Sponge Bob, unlimited snacks, $20 every Friday to spend for the weekend, and homemade rollercoaster rides down the stairs. Some days it was unclear if Grandpa was watching the boys or if the boys were watching Grandpa. No matter what it was, it was a great time for all. Khamouane had so many hobbies. He loved music and played a lot of instruments. His passion was his garden – he grew watermelon, Asian pears, persimmons, green beans, etc. He had his own little farmer’s market in his backyard. He invited his neighbors to come and pick from his garden. Khamouane’s favorite hobby was shopping (we know where his daughter got it from)! You could always find him at Costco and the newly open Hung Vuong Asian supermarket. He has a whole grocery store in his basement. As shared, Khamouane lived a full and best life. We could be here for days sharing all of the memories and love we all have of and for him. Even if he is not here with us, he is here with us in spirit. We celebrate the hardworking man that he was and the beautiful life he built and lived. Services will be private.
