Louisa May Mitchell

Louisa May Mitchell, age 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 28, 2026. She was born on May 22, 1935, in Wilmington, DE. In her early years, she worked as a keypunch operator for the Wilmington Police Department, where she met and fell in love with her late husband, Charles Frank Mitchell Jr. She later dedicated 25 years of loyal service to the News Journal before retiring. Following her retirement, she continued working part-time as an office associate with Jester’s Tax Service in Newark. Louisa was a Past Worthy Matron in Eastern Star, Caesar Rodney Post, Chapter 8. She was an avid Boscov’s shopper. She enjoyed going to casinos and watching The Price is Right. Louisa loved to be active and spent many years bowling with her friends, and was known to bust a move with her tap-dancing skills. She had many fond memories of family camping adventures and trips to the beach. Louisa also loved being spoiled. Above all else, Louisa was a woman who cherished her family deeply. Louisa was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Louisa is survived by her children: Donna Mutchler (Jeff), Diane Griffiths (Luis), Charlie Mitchell III (Dawn), and Kimberly Scoggins (Doug); grandchildren: Jason (Melissa), Joshua (Melissa), Jessica (Sam), Wayne, Steven (Kit), Alysha (Charlie), Charlie IV (Shannon), Cameron (Kennedy), and Bo; 16 great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louisa Gunther and Clan Clarence Wilson; husband, Charles Frank Mitchell Jr.; sister and brother-in-law, Doris Pyle (Lew); brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence “Rick” Wilson (Mabel) and Frederick Wilson (Mary); and granddaughter, Alainna. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 11 AM to 12 PM at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702. A service in celebration of Louisa’s life will begin at 12 PM. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N Dupont Hwy, New Castle, DE 19720.
