Margaret Rankin Campbell

Margaret Rankin Campbell, of Newark, DE went home to the Lord on January 6, 2024 just one week before her 90th birthday. Born in Bonhill, Scotland to the late Rebecca and John Shields, Margaret and her sister Eleanor grew up in Scotland and had strong ties to their homeland. Margaret moved to America in 1959 with her husband James Campbell and together they raised their 4 children. Margaret loved her family with all of her heart and enjoyed gathering with family and friends over the years. She loved traveling with her husband to Vegas, Florida, Niagara Falls, Aruba, Australia, Scotland, and throughout the USA. Margaret liked playing the slot machines. She made many heartfelt gifts with her crochet skills over the years. Margaret was active at Elkton Presbyterian Church for many years and developed many lifelong friendships there. She retired from Avon Products after 30 years of dedicated service. Margaret impacted so many in her life including much of the beloved staff at Somerford Place where she was lovingly cared for over the past eight years. Margaret will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her sense of humor, and her zest for life. Her sweet Scottish accent and kind ways will always have a place in the hearts of all those who loved her. She will be deeply missed. Margaret is survived by her daughters: Eleanor Ungemack (Curt) and Margaret A. Ferm; her sister, Eleanor Shields; her grandson, Robert Bruce Campbell; and daughter-in-law, Jean Campbell. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, James Campbell; her sons: Robert Campbell and Glenn Campbell; her son-in-law, John Ferm; and her parents, Rebecca and John Shields. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, January 11 from 2-3 PM at the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702. A service in celebration of Margaret’s life will follow at 3 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Elkton Presbyterian Church, 209 East Main St., Elkton, MD 21921.
