Michael Drohan

Michael R. Drohan, 47, of Newark, DE, passed away at home with his loved ones at his side on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. Michael was born (Nov 30, 1969) and raised in Southwest Philadelphia and had a fun-filled childhood. He especially enjoyed going on adventures with his siblings and friends, usually planned and chaperoned by his adoring Aunt Carol. When they weren't traveling the States, the family spent summers at their vacation home in Ocean City, MD, which is undoubtedly why Michael's favorite place was the beach.Michael loved diving into the ocean waves, soaking in the rays of the sun and the feel of the sand between his toes. Even more, Michael loved spending his time at the beach with his family and friends, excited to be fishing, riding a jet ski and taking long walks along the sand dunes. His beach days weren't complete without his favorite straw hat, flip flops and his beloved Reggae songs by Bob Marley and Beenie Man. When he wasn't at the beach, Michael enjoyed listening to songs by The Dave Matthews Band or Pearl Jam. Although Michael was an Engineer, the title doesn't come close to describing his talent to do or fix anything. If there is an occupational title for a hard working man that has the golden touch for even the biggest or smallest of jobs, that would be Michael's title. Michael loved to make people laugh and was fabulous at doing so. During those rare moments when Michael wasn't working, he was always the life of every party. His family and friends always looked forward to his famous dance moves... the "Shopping Cart", the "Canoe" and the "Sprinkler" were among some of the favorites. Michael certainly had the unique ability to clear the dance floor, pull out one of those dance moves, and spread a love of life and boundless joy to everyone that was blessed to know him. Michael's move to Delaware brought him to his soulmate, his wife... Trish. Their love and devotion to each other, even through the most difficult of times, is inspiring. So too, is the heart-warming relationship that quickly developed between Michael and Trish's young son, Aidan. It takes a special man to be a loving and caring father, and that's exactly what Michael was to both of his sons, Justin and Aidan. Michael is survived by his loving wife, Patricia “Trish” Drohan; sons, Justin Drohan and Aidan Ricciardi; sister, Kim Bramble; brothers, Nort Drohan (Cassie) and Danny Drohan (Jenn); parents-in-law, Donald and Georgene Ricciardi; 22 nieces and nephews; 1 great niece and 1 great nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nort and Joan Drohan. A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2017, from 1:30-3 PM at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a service in celebration of Michael’s life at 3 PM.
