Olga Alexander Dedkova

Olga Alexander Dedkova, age 60, of Newtown Square, PA passed away at home with loved ones by her side on August 31, 2023. She valiantly fought a 20-year battle against cancer. Olga was born in Kiev, Ukraine to the late Valentina and Alexander Dedkov. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature at the Kiev University. Olga emigrated to the USA at the age of 29. She was proud to be a permanent resident and was working towards full American citizenship. For many years, Olga was able to work in the community by serving as a Russian and Ukrainian translator. Fitness, good nutrition, and exercise were very important to Olga. She enjoyed gardening and trips to Longwood Gardens. Many fun days were spent going to Zumba classes and playing tennis with her daughter. Olga loved spending time on the nature trails of Ridley Creek State Park where she would walk for hours, enjoy creek swimming, and hug trees. She spent many tranquil hours walking in the woods and visiting the ocean with her dear friend George. Olga was fiercely determined and fought to make the hopes and dreams for herself and her daughter become reality. She was passionate about helping her daughter be successful in life and was very proud to watch her graduate from Penn State University and begin to excel in her career. Olga was thrilled to attend her daughter’s wedding and welcome her son-in-law into their family last Spring. Olga defied the odds and fought back against cancer for many years. She resolutely pursued alternative treatments, integrative medicine, and the use of nutrition and exercise in addition to traditional treatments. She was a wonderful mother to her beloved daughter, Alice and was a devoted companion and friend to George for many years. Olga’s love, kindness, and determination were an inspiration to many. She will be deeply missed and forever loved. Olga is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Wyatt Bishop; her loving friend, caretaker, and companion, George Desenberg; and many treasured friends. Olga was preceded in death by her parents. Services and burial will be held privately. A celebration of Olga's life will be held on Saturday, September 16 from 12 to 3 PM at 1019 Arbor Way, Newtown Square, PA 19073 where family and friends are invited to wear joyful colors in keeping with Olga's personality.
