Raul Lopez

Raul Lopez (Lugo), 88, husband of Juanita Lopez, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2023, surrounded by his family and friends. Raul was born on March 30, 1935, in Lares, Puerto Rico to the late Eulalia Lugo Lopez and Hilario Lopez. He migrated from Puerto Rico to Brooklyn, New York where he met his wife, Juanita. After some years in New York, he and his wife moved back to Puerto Rico, but soon returned to the United Stated to Detroit, Michigan where he began his career with the Chrysler Corporation Company. When the plant closed in Michigan, he moved to Delaware to continue his career with Chrysler. He retired from the company after 30 years of service. Raul was an avid member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Wilmington, Delaware, where he enjoyed attending Saturday service and playing his guitar with the church choir, and participating in various movements with the charismatic group. In addition to his love of playing guitar, he also enjoyed being outdoors, where he loved planting trees, flowers, vegetables, and anything he could grow. Raul was a wonderful husband to his wife, Juanita, a great father to his children, and a great grandpa to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Raul was preceded in death by his parents Eulalia and Hilario Lopez, his sister, Emma Lopez Lugo, brothers, Ovidio Lopez Lugo, Edwin Lopez Lugo, Luis Lopez Lugo, Efrain Lopez Lugo, and Ruben Lopez Lugo, his son Wilbert (Willy) Morales, and daughters, Leticia (Tish) Caban, and Amarilis (Ana) Morales. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Rubin Lopez and his wife Daisy of Frederica, Delaware, daughters, Teresa Kirsch and her husband Stephen of Long Island, New York, and Nivia Cruz of Southgate, Michigan, his sister Blanca Gloria Lopez Lugo, of Lares, Puerto Rico, 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren. A viewing for Raul will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023 from 9-11 AM, followed by a Mass at 11 AM at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 1010 W. 4th St., Wilmington, DE 19805. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808. The family wishes to thank Delaware Hospice for the excellent assistance they provided to the family, and the care they gave to Raul.
