Richard Huska

Richard Huska, age 76, of Hockessin, DE, passed away at home on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. Born July 1,1947, in Yonkers, NY to Michael and Helen Huska, Richard (Rich/Dick) was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many throughout his lifetime. Upon graduating high school, Richard served his country by joining the Navy which took him to various ports all over the world. Upon discharge from the Navy, he began working for Philips Labs then eventually Ciba in New York, which provided him with a career in the Pigments Division for several decades until his retirement in 2010. Beyond his military service and professional career, Richard was an avid sports enthusiast. He had a passion for baseball and was talented enough to play in the minor league feeder team for the NY Mets. He was also a loyal NY Giants fan and refused to convert to Eagles fandom after moving from NY to DE. He had a passion for golf and was an avid player and always looked forward to his annual golf trips and local league weekly matches. For decades, Tuesday evenings would find him at the lanes, with his bowling team. He served in administrative roles to support both his bowling and golf leagues. Richard also remained active in his neighborhood, serving on the Homeowners Association. Neighbors will miss his community presence as he could often be found available for a chat or wave as he tended to yard work or enjoyed a cocktail from the deck. He was also known for his love of karaoke and in particular, Frank Sinatra. “My Way” and “Mac the Knife” were his signature songs. Richard most enjoyed spending time with his family and will be deeply missed. There is no shortage of good memories, and his family has already found many opportunities to smile about the things that made Richard so special to the family dynamic. Richard leaves behind his devoted wife of 50 years, Marguerite: his children: daughter Kristin Funkhouser (son-in-law Joe Funkhouser) and son Craig Huska: and 2 granddaughters that brought him immense joy (Daphne Funkhouser and Coralie Huska). He is also survived by a brother John Huska (Carol DiMichele) and was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia McFadyen. A visitation will be held Monday, May 13, 2024, from 10:30 AM-12 PM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707 followed by a Funeral Mass at 12 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to be made to First Tee Delaware, a youth development organization that enables children to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges, through the game of golf.
