Ronald G. Dixon

RONALD GERARD DIXON, age 59, was born in Wilmington, Delaware on January 8, 1964, to John Allen Dixon, Sr. (deceased) and Verna Mae Dixon-Brown. He transitioned from this life on Thursday, November 9, 2023, in Christiana Care Hospice Center in Wilmington, Delaware after losing his battle with prostate cancer. Ronald (affectionately known to most as Ronnie, Ron G. or Lump Lump) received his education in the Colonial School District in New Castle, Delaware. He received his diploma from James H. Grove High School. While growing up, he would rise early every Saturday morning, grab the biggest bowl in the kitchen and fill it with cereal and milk to watch his favorite cartoons: Marine Boy, Speed Racer, Ultra Man, Aqua Man, Underdog, Johnny Quest, Batman and Scooby Doo. And in the afternoon and evenings, he would take his place in front of the TV again with a tall glass of overly sugared grape Kool-Aid to watch wrestling. Some of his favorites were Andre the Giant, Stan “The Man” Stasiak, Hulk Hogan, Bruno Sammartino, Chief Jay Strongbow and Mr. Fiji. He and his brother John would watch the tag teams and argue over who was the best. He also loved to collect and shoot marbles. Oftentimes, he would hang out in his backyard on Carver Drive with Stephen Foster and some his other friends shooting and exchanging marbles. For those who really knew Ronnie, there was no doubt that his favorite pastime was playing basketball. He loved Magic Johnson, Julius Irving, Kareem Abdul Jabaar, Scottie Pippen, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and the Harlem Globetrotters. Even though he loved those in the NBA, in his earlier days, he loved being a part of the Holy Spirit Basketball Team and playing ball in Dunleith Park with his friends. His heart’s desire was to play professional basketball. Although that dream never came into fruition, he still earned his respect from the community as being one of New Castle’s best ball players. Ronnie was employed for over 40 years through the Conexiocare Program as a janitor and maintenance man. Ronnie accepted and had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He attended St. James AUMP Church on Claymont Street as a child and in his later years attended church at Manna Christian Fellowship Church where Rev. Aaron Moore is the pastor. His last request that he made to his sister Jean was for her to make a social media post to let everyone know that he made his peace with God and that he was so deeply sorry for anyone that he may have hurt in his lifetime and hoped that everyone would forgive him. His request was honored. He also expressed how thankful and grateful he was to God for his two daughters who stuck by his side during his illness, especially while in hospice until his passing. He leaves to cherish his memories to his two daughters, Dorothy Johnson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Theresa “Weezle” Dixon of Wilmington, Delaware; his mother, Verna Mae Dixon-Brown of Laurel, Maryland; three sisters, Gwendolyn Brown of Baltimore, Maryland, Loletia Jean Dixon of Waldorf, Maryland, Joncea Dixon of Los Angeles, California; two brothers, John Dixon, Jr. of Wilmington, Delaware and Shay Dixon of Waldorf, Maryland; his nieces and nephews, Michael, Shaunte, Leo, John, Raymond, Jr., Amanda, Maurice, Jordyn and Jarvis; his uncles, Michael Garnett, David Dixon (Janice), Kenny Dixon (Karen), his aunts Deloris Harrison, Jeannette Mann, Joanne Dixon, Bertha Dixon and Sevella Jones; a devoted cousin, Kelly Harrison; his devoted friends, Theresa Harvey, (the Dunleith originals) - Michael “Peanut” Doran, William Doran, Stephen Foster, Roderick Davis, David Jenkins, Danny Lumpkin, Dennis Turner, Wardell “Slash” Herring, Eddie Pritchett, Pete Parks and Michael Barnes and a host of cousins and other friends. He was predeceased in death by his father, John Allen Dixon, Sr; stepmother, Renee B. Dixon; grandfathers Thomas Scott and William Garnett; grandmother Dora Dixon; Uncle Steven Dixon; and Aunt Elaine Johnson. Ronnie was loved by many and will be deeply missed. A visitation will be held Saturday, December 9, 2023, from 11 AM-12 Noon at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a celebration of Ronnie’s life at 12 Noon.
