Rosaria “Rose” Lind passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion to her family and friends. She was 92 years old. Born Rosaria Mandato in Queens, New York, in 1933—during the heart of the Great Depression—Rose grew up in a large, close-knit Italian family. From an early age, she stood out for her intelligence, determination, and deep sense of compassion. She was the first woman in her family to attend and graduate from college, earning her degree from Hunter College in Queens, New York—a milestone that filled her loved ones with pride. After college, Rose’s adventurous spirit took her across Europe, where she explored Rome, Vatican City, and the small Italian town in the Province of Benevento, Italy, where her family’s story began. Those travels deepened her appreciation for her heritage and her faith—two guiding lights throughout her life. Rose began her career as a truant officer at a school in Queens, where she met a young man named Albert Lind. Years later, after Al accepted a position on Long Island, the two began dating. They married in 1962 and, in 1964, built their home in Sea Cliff, a New York home filled with warmth, laughter, and the aroma of good food. After years of hoping for children, Rose and Al joyfully adopted their son Thomas in 1967. Three years later, they welcomed their second son, Robert. Rose devoted herself fully to raising her boys, providing them with the same love and stability that had anchored her own childhood. Later, Rose and Al moved to Delaware to be closer to their grandson, Matthew. They were a constant and loving presence in his life, attending his school events, cheering him on at activities, and picking him up from school. After moving to Bear, Rose became a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, where her Catholic faith continued to be a steady source of strength and community. She also became an active member of the Newark Senior Center, where she made many dear friends and participated in everything from water exercise classes and book club to museum outings and lunches with “the ladies”—sometimes intimate gatherings, sometimes big, joyful get-togethers of twenty or more “Water Babies.” Later, she joined the Bear YMCA, where her circle of friends grew even wider. Throughout her life, Rose was known for her radiant smile, her gentle wisdom, her patience, and her deep kindness. She had a gift for listening and an uncanny ability to offer just the right words when others needed them most. A devout Catholic, Rose’s faith carried her through both joy and hardship—including her extraordinary strength in facing cancer five separate times. Her final battle, with remarkable courage and grace, lasted nearly four years. She never complained, meeting each day with quiet resilience, humor, and love. Rose lived independently to the end, supported by a devoted team of caregivers who became like family. Earlier this year, her heart was filled with joy once again when she became a great-grandmother to baby Tahlia. Seeing her—or even a photo of her—could light up Rose’s entire face. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Albert; her sons, Thomas and Robert (wife Gail); her grandson, Matthew (wife Clarissa); and her great-granddaughter, Tahlia. Rose’s life was a testament to faith, love, and perseverance. She will be remembered for the warmth she brought into every room, the strength she showed through every trial, and the love she gave so freely to her family and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to the viewing Monday, November 10, 2025, from 10 – 11 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church, 345 Bear Christiana Road in Bear, where a Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Newark Senior Center in honor of Rose’s dedication to the center and her many friends there.
