Sachiko Johnson

Mrs. Sachiko "Angie" Johnson from Bear, DE, went on to be with the Lord and her late husband on Sunday, September 29, 2024. Angie had recently celebrated her 90th birthday on July 29, 2024, while quietly and bravely battling cancer at home, ultimately taking her final breath at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE. Sachiko was born on July 29,1934, in Okinawa Japan, where she would eventually meet her life-long soulmate Melvyn Lee Johnson, while she was working as a waitress on the Kadena U.S. Air Force Base and he was an enlisted military policeman. The two lovebirds tied the knot and Angie left her Japanese family and home to live with her husband here in the United States. Both were active members of the Newark Church of Christ for over 50 years, where Angie worked for decades at the church's Aletheia Christian School and Child Care as the cafeteria manager. Having been a native of Eastern collectivist culture, Sachiko had the selfless mind of a servant, always concerned about those around her, whether family, church family, neighbors, coworkers, even strangers. She enjoyed constantly doing for others, making flower arrangements, gardening, crocheting, sewing, cooking, and lending a helping hand to anyone who needed such, even feeding other shut-ins and walking the neighbor's dogs. Sachiko is survived by several siblings in Japan, her daughter Susan Johnson, her son Michael Johnson and her three grandchildren: Michael Zachary, Heather Nicole and Nathan Ryan. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, from 10 to 11 AM at the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702 followed by a service celebrating Angie’s selfless life at 11 AM. The Committal Service will then be held at 1:00 PM at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701, where she will find her final resting spot alongside her husband.
