Terry Elizabeth Richey

Terry Elizabeth Richey, age 79, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2025.Terry was born in West Grove, PA, to the late Robert McHenry Sr. and the late Anne (Ewell) Rhorer. She grew up in the Oxford, PA area and later moved to Newark, DE, where she graduated from Newark High School in 1963. Terry later settled in Newark, DE, where she married the late William “Bill” Richey and raised her three daughters. Terry retired from Avon Products in 2003 after over 40 years of service. Terry was an avid fan of Elvis and always talked about her Elvis records, often ensuring they could be heard playing throughout her home. She especially loved playing them at Christmas when relatives from near and far would gather at her tiny home for dinner, and the kids would put on pageants while the adults played cards all night long. Terry loved owls so for any holiday, her family made sure she received an “owl” related gift; for Christmas, birthdays, and Mother’s Day, she got an owl. When she found out you liked something, she also made sure to reciprocate – there were endless wine and dog “chachkies”. Terry loved being a “mom-mom”. She even let her granddaughter name her after the family dog, fondly being called “Mom-Mom Buddy”. She cherished her grandchildren endlessly, spoiling Matthew, Eric, Madison, and Lilly as a grandmother would, and attending every school event. She also adored her four-legged grandchildren and would often care for them, allowing them to snuggle at her feet - but never gave kisses. Along with the unique nickname given by her granddaughter, her family often jokingly addressed her by different variations of her name, calling her “Teresa” or “Terrance”. She wasn’t a fan, but knew it was all in fun. Terry is survived by her daughters: Cheryl Wright (David), Brenda Coryell (Alan), and Jenny Billips (Kevin); grandchildren, Eric Wright and Madison Billips; great-granddaughter, Lilly Wright; sisters, Anne Rash and Kathy Johnson; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert McHenry Sr. and Anne Rhorer; husband, William Richey; grandson, Matthew Wright; great-grandson, Zachary Wright; and brothers, Bob McHenry and Rick McHenry.
