Vernon Mervin Harold Gosine Sr.

Vernon Mervin Harold Gosine, Sr. was born on March 26, 1954, in Port of Spain, Trinidad; he passed away at home on October 18, 2023, in Wilmington, Delaware. Vernon was educated in Trinidad and started work at the young age of 12 years old with his father, Arjoon, in a printery where he enjoyed working as a pressman using a guillotine. In 1974 Vernon met Jennifer, who would eventually become his wife and the mother of his children at the age of 19 in 1975. They had three children, and he immigrated to America in 1988. Vernon worked as an auto mechanic in Brooklyn, New York until he retired in 2015. He then moved to Delaware to be closer to his daughters. Even after retirement and moving, he enjoyed working on cars. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, teaching them to play dominoes, checkers, and card games. The grandchildren always had to tell him to stop cheating, and he would just laugh. Vernon also loved fishing, hunting, and crabbing. He crabbed the old-fashioned way; he just stuck his hand in the hole and grabbed them. His favorite food was curry crab and dumplings. Vernon loved to relax by chilling with a beer, a cigarette, and watching a good Western movie. Vernon, Sr. was preceded in death by his father, Arjoon; mother, Anita; sister, Gemma; brother, Dev; his beloved son, Vernon Jr; and his beloved, granddaughter, Amanda. He leaves to remember him, His ex-wife, Jennifer; daughters, Catrina Gosine (David) and Tricia Williams (Gladstone); daughter-in-law, Dillian Gosine; grandchildren: Maria, Davina, Michael, Jonathan, Moriyah, Isabella, Alex, Dillon, Alicia and Amelia; great-granddaughter, Malina; siblings: Patsy Subero (Phillip), Denise Caldon (Tony), Carol-Ann Knight, Doreen Rollock (Ronald), Abigail Scott-Sanderson, Zalina Gosine (Dev’s wife), and Junior Gosine; and many nieces, nephews and friends. The family trust and find comfort in knowing that God is in control, and they hope to see him in the First Resurrection. A visitation will be held Sunday, November 5, 2023, from 2-3 PM at West Wilmington Seventh Day Adventist Church,3003 Millcreek Rd. Wilmington, DE 19808 followed by a celebration of Vernon’s life at 3 PM.
