Allan "Big Al" Smith

Allan P. Smith, age 57, of New Castle, DE, passed away in the comfort of his home with his loved ones, after a long and brave battle with cancer. Allan was a devoted father, grandfather, and family man to the end for his sons, grandchildren, and their mothers. Allan was a lifelong Delaware resident and attended various schools throughout the districts. He made great friends and found the love of music, theater arts, and cars. He made lifelong friendships that carried him into his adult life with the many interests and hobbies that he was avidly involved in. After vocational school and working in the industry he attended Del Tech to pursue a career in HVAC that evolved into opportunities that led him into general contracting and starting his own business that grew into a successful family business. Allan was passionate about spending time with his family and friends. He had a love for fishing with his sons and spending time at the beach. He enjoyed fast cars and time at the track with the boys and his buddies. One of his favorite pastimes was playing music with many friends and fellow bandmates and concert going. Motorcycles and the friends that he traveled about on his Harley with also brought him joy. His Halloween legacy will live on in all of us, as he provided so many people with the haunts of Halloween over the years. His passion for horror films and haunted attractions was immense. He was very invested over the years in this state’s haunted attractions and traveled to many others in surrounding states yearly. Most notably, his creation of the Trail of Terror, and involvement in Satan’s Landing and Fright Land to name a few. All of these were such a thrill for him. He prided himself on the endearing moments he shared with each and every one of you. Allan was preceded in death by his mother, Laurel P. Smith and adopted father, Kenneth Smith and his beloved aunt, Myra Eastburn. Allan leaves behind his sons: Joshua I. Smith, Allan Perry B. Smith, and Mark Brooks and his sons’ mothers, Carol (Leddington) Dotson (Allan Perry) and Robyn Brooks-Smith (Joshua and Mark), his grandchildren, (Allan Perry) Amethyst and Onyx Smith and their mother, Kayla. His stepbrother, Tim Smith (Sarah) and his only cousins, Jessica and Jennifer. A host of family, friends, and companions. His customers and colleagues who were all loved by him like extended family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of his life on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 3 PM at Robyn’s house. Please contact the family or funeral home for the address.
