Barbara Brokaw, age 62, of Bear, DE, passed away at home Tuesday, February 15, 2022. Barbara earned her Associates Degree in Business from Goldey-Beacom College. She worked as an administrative assistant at DuPont before becoming a stay-at-home mom. Barbara was working for the Colonial School District at the time of her death. Barbara was a very good cook – family and friends always could count on a delicious meal when sitting at her table. She was an avid reader who also loved cheering for the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. Barbara had a beautiful flower garden which she enjoyed tending. She relaxed at the Delaware beaches. Barbara was a loving mom, sister, aunt, and friend to many. After her family she loved her pets – Blake the boxer, Marvin the cat, Roxy and Nash the grand-kitties, and several birds. Barbara will be greatly missed. Barbara is survived by her children: Kimberly Schussler, Kerry Schussler, and Emily Schussler; siblings, Judy Thornton (Gary) and Jerry Brokaw (Marie); nieces and nephews: Greg Thornton (Krys), Brian Brokaw, Becca Martin (Adam), Kristen Lloyd (Chris), and Mark Thornton (Ashley); many great-nieces and great-nephews; and life-long friend, Valerie Poppiti (Bob). She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerome and Jeanette Brokaw. A visitation will be held Thursday, February 24, 2022, from 6-8 PM at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702. Services and burial will be private. Casual attire is acceptable. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Barbara’s love for animals, donations may be sent to Faithful Friends or Delaware Humane Society.
