October 4, 1937 - March 31, 2022
The long goodbye of Alzheimer’s Disease ended for Barbara McKenna on March 31, 2022. She is off to spend eternity on a beach with her beloved husband, Phil McKenna, and have ridiculously long phone calls with her daughter, Josephine Wilson. Barbara recently achieved 49 years of sobriety through Alcoholics Anonymous, and in that time, she helped thousands of people achieve the same gift. At the age of 52 she obtained her master’s degree and opened an outpatient substance abuse treatment center which she ran until her retirement in 2012. To speak of her sobriety is not to imply our mother was a restrained woman. Her life was as big and loud as her taste in jewelry. She spoke her mind, shared her life and her home, and traveled extensively. Her heart was as big as her shoe closet. Barbara Little Quinn was born October 4, 1937, in Charleston, WV to Albert and Madge Quinn. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Michael Quinn as well as her husband, Philip McKenna and oldest daughter, Josephine Wilson. She will be fondly remembered for her sharp wit, love of dogs and a life miraculously well lived. Left to mourn her absence are her children Kurt Wagemann and wife Cindy, Marie Cephas, Alberta Crowley, Olga Perkins and husband Bob, Thomas Wagemann and Katie Hoskins and husband Greg, 20 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. We are forever grateful to the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice, especially Jessica, Aaron, and Chaplain Doug, for being such support for Mom and us. We ask that you consider a donation to them in Mom’s memory at Compassionate Care Hospice, 111 Continental Drive, Suite 407, Newark, DE 19713. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, April 8 from 10 – 11 AM at Strano and Feeley Family Funeral Home. A service in celebration of Barbara’s life will follow at 11 AM. Burial will be private. To send an online condolence please visit www.stranofeeley.com.
