David W. Ogborne Sr.

David W. Ogborne Sr., age 78, of New Castle, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 19, 2023. He was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Bertha and Carl Ogborne. Dave was a man who made his family his whole world. This was evident in everything he did. He kept his circle small and if you were fortunate enough to be let in, he would regard you as family. In 1966, Dave married the love of his life, Janice, together they built an amazing life and family, including 3 children and 9 grandchildren. They also built and ran several successful trucking companies, the latest, Ogborne Hauling, is still operating today. Dave was a force to be reckoned with and made an impression on everyone that ever met him. His generosity was immeasurable and he would do anything for those he considered friends or family. One of his best qualities was his sense of humor. He could find humor in almost anything and was always up for a good practical joke. Dave was also very passionate about supporting children and veterans and regularly donated to charities for both groups. Dave's favorite thing was spending time with his family. This included spending time with his wife, kids, and grandkids. He enjoyed spending time in the shore town of Brigantine, NJ where they had a vacation home for over 20 years. Dave also enjoyed traveling to Disney with his family. To Dave, making memories meant more than anything tangible. Even though he will be sorely missed, his family is comforted that he is no longer in pain, he is at peace, and that one day the family will all be reunited with him. Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Janice; his children: Lisa M. Kivler (Mike), David W. Ogborne Jr. (Michelle), and Melissa Ogborne-Kinsler; his sister-in-law, Judy Ogborne; his niece, Judy (Scott); his nephew, Stephen (Jackie); his grandchildren: Courtney (John), Cody, Kelsie, Savannah, Hayley, Josh, Justin, and Danielle. Dave was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Carl F. “Ozzie” Ogborne Jr.; his grandson, Nicholas; and his nephew, Carl Ogborne III. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, July 29 from 10 AM to Noon at the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702. A service in celebration of Dave’s life will follow at 12 PM. Burial will be private.
