Dennis Smith Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Dennis “Denny” Eugene Smith, son of the late James L. and Helen E. Smith, was born September, 1954, in Wilmington, DE, and raised in Townsend, DE. Dennis departed this life, Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE. He was a graduate of Middletown High School. Denny was in the National Guard and subsequently enrolled into the National Guard Reserves. He retired from ABM Cleaning Company in 2018. Growing up, Denny had a penchant for the arts. He was creative and had a spectacular talent for hand- drawn caricatures, free-hand drawing, and painting. As a teenager, Denny was a bass guitarist at Townsend Glorious Church of God in Christ. When he grew older, he kept a collection of guitars so that he could continue his love for music. In the most recent years Denny grew in his love of writing- much like his father -he was crafting a handwritten sci-fi novel that he wanted to self-publish. After high school Denny was on the recreational softball team with his brother. Denny had a generous heart that knew no bounds. He was a doting father, husband, son, brother, and uncle. He was the family comedian and loved making our family laugh. Denny loved to bake and his favorite dessert to bring to all the family gatherings with his famous sweet potato pies. He enjoyed weekly visits to Cowtown and hanging out with his older brother at Spencer’s Bazaar. Denny married the love of his life, Patricia. Through their union, Denny became a father to 3 girls. He loved his family with all of his heart and found deep joy in sharing stories about his daughters’ milestones and accomplishments. Denny is survived by his wife, Patricia; children: Aaliyah, Alexis and Amaris; siblings: Kevin Sr. (Terry), Phyllis Mith-Tiller, Kittrell Sr., Kurt Sr. (Josette), Kristin Stinson, and William Sr. (Allison); his close cousin, Gilbert Pratt; sister-in-law, Rose Chukwurah; his parent-in-laws; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A viewing will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022, from 9-10AM at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a service in celebration of Dennis’s life at 10AM.
