Ella Bernice Schultz

December 11, 1924 - August 14, 2020

Ella Bernice Schultz (Bernice) peacefully left this world on Friday, August 14, 2020 due to natural causes. She was 95 years old. She was born December 11, 1924, on a ranch outside Big Sandy, Montana, to Howard Allderdice and Eva Bernice (Deem) Allderdice. She was the oldest of four siblings, all of whom proceeded her in death; Virginia Allderdice West, Grace Allderdice Swan, William Allderdice, and Robert Allderdice. A fifth sibling, Nell, died at birth. Bernice pursued work in the secretarial field; moving first to San Francisco, and later to Alaska as a civilian employee for the U.S. Army, where she met her husband, Thomas Lee Schultz, a Sergeant and later an accountant. They were married in Alaska in 1952. They also lived in Arizona, California, and New Jersey as well before finally settling in Colorado where Tom died; afterward, Bernice moved to Montana near an Aunt and a Cousin, and ultimately moved to Delaware to be with her daughter and her family. Loving and generous, she always remembered birthdays and other special occasions of her family, relatives, and friends. For many years she had an antique pump organ, inherited from a relative, on which she could play music by ear. Bernice loved animals; dogs, cats, and horses in particular. She enjoyed reading and classical music and while in San Francisco, frequently attended theatrical and musical performances. She loved the ocean and taking her dogs for walks on the California beaches. Bernice was fond of looking at her vast collection of photographs and old cards and letters. Bernice is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and David Orzechowski of Wilmington; her grandson, Grant Orzechowski; and her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Tegan and Robert Clark of Claymont. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, Delaware, 19801, or to Unity Church of Christianity, 1901 NW Blue Parkway, Unity Village, Missouri, 64065-0001. A visitation will be held Friday, August 21, 2020, from 2-3 PM at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a service in celebration of Bernice’s life at 3 PM. Burial will be with her husband at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO. For directions or to send an online condolence, visit www.stranofeeley.com
