Gerardo "Jerry" Ortiz Cintron Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Gerardo “Jerry” Ortiz Cintron, age 99, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully at home on October 26, 2020. Jerry was born in Maunabo, Puerto Rico to the late Fernando Cintron and Catalina Ortiz Cintron and was raised by his stepmother, Carmen DeLeon Cintron. Jerry was brother to: Francisco “Paco”, Carlito, Fernando, Carmencita Delores, Marta, Edwardo, Gregoria, Fedilina, Natalia, Joaquin, and Jorge “Generito.” Jerry was married to Gabriela “Gabe” Cintron for 64 years prior to her passing in 2007. Jerry arrived to the U.S. from Puerto Rico in 1952, eventually settling in the Town of Odessa, DE. He was the groundkeeper for J.C. Calloway Estates for more than 20 years before moving his family to Wilmington, DE. Jerry was a devoted family man and enjoyed playing dominoes, gardening, crafting, watching WWF Wrestling and the Phillies Baseball games. In his leisure, he would enjoy visiting Delaware Park’s Casino & Horse Races. He was known for his talent in wine making and Roncana (a form of Spanish Moonshine), as well as his homemade Hot Pepper…as he would commonly be heard saying, “Hot Pepper es lo que ahi!” Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gabriela Ramos Vega Cintron; and his children: Velma, David, Pedro Julio, and Melinda “Mindy” Cintron. Jerry is survived by his children: Carmen Elsie Cintron, Jerry (Ito) Cintron, Jr. (Nancy), Hector (Chicky)Cintron (Lori), Sonia Gonzalez (Juan), Edwin Cintron (Debbie), Robert Cintron (Anna), and Debbie Mena Cintron, spouse of the late Pedro Julio; a host of extended family in Puerto Rico; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the Nurse’s & CNA’s of BAYADA Nursing; Ronda, Kevin and Melissa for their compassionate care & support during Jerry’s final days.
