Homer Edward Smith

September 17, 1960 - January 9, 2022

Homer Edward Smith, age 61, of New Castle, DE went home to be with the Lord on January 9, 2022. He was born in Indiana, PA to the late Barbara Henry Smith and Homer C. Smith and spent his early childhood in Elizabeth, NJ before his family moved to Delaware. Ed graduated from Delcastle Technical High School and attended Wilmington College. He worked for many years as a USPS mail carrier and was a member of their “Million Mile Club” for driving that distance without an accident. He received other awards as well, and earned the admiration and respect of his coworkers and customers. Ed was a devoted and loving husband, and time spent with his wife Terri was his greatest joy. They could be found exploring historical landmarks together, growing sunflowers in their garden, grabbing breakfast “across the way” at Cracker Barrel, or just sipping coffee on the patio. Ed enjoyed fly fishing, golfing, and watching his Pittsburgh Steelers. He had a passion and enthusiasm for studying American History, and enjoyed a specific focus on the Civil War that, combined with his love of exploring his family’s genealogy, led him to discover relatives who fought in different battles. Ed loved to study - and discuss at great length - reformed theology, apologetics, and the scholarly works of R.C. Sproul. He enjoyed doing Bible studies with his children and teaching them the Westminster Shorter Catechism. His greatest joy was time spent with his beloved family, where his sense of humor brought love and laughter to all. Ed was known for being kind, compassionate, and spreading the gospel as an ambassador of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His legacy will be forever remembered and carried on in the lives of all who loved him. Ed is survived by his wife of 40 years, Terri Smith; his children: Laura Angert (Luke), Zach Smith (Nikole), Andrea Hill-Ridgeway (Sterling),Jacob Smith (Monica), and Benjamin Smith (Rebecca); his father, Homer C. Smith; his sisters: Kathy Kogut (Mitchell), JoAnn Dill (Bill), and Terry Smith; 4 beloved grandchildren: Marcus Angert, Sawyer Smith, Isla Angert, and Brynn Smith; and a host of extended family and friends. Ed was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Smith. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, January 17 from 5:30 -7 PM at the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702. A service in celebration of Ed’s life will follow at 7 PM. Burial will be private at Little Britain Presbyterian Cemetery, 255 Little Britain Church Rd, Peachbottom, PA 17563. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the funeral home to assist the family with expenses. For directions or to send an online condolence please visit www.stranofeeley.com.
