James Clayton Jones

March 8, 1930 - January 23, 2022

James C. Jones “Jimmy” passed away peacefully on January 23, 2022, at the age of 91. He was the son of the late Elizabeth (Thornton) and Richard Jones. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Richard and Robert, as well as his sister Anne. Jim graduated from Middletown High School and Wesley College and then proudly served in the US Marine Corp. He spent his working years at DuPont and Brandywine Chrysler Plymouth. Jimmy was well known among many Delaware youth as a beloved baseball coach. When he wasn’t coaching, he could be found on the golf course (with his ugly swing) or in the bowling alley. Jimmy was also a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan who finally got to see them win The World Series in 2016 - Go Cubbies! Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Mary Helen Biggs Jones; daughter, Kaye Snook (Dave) of Middletown, DE; sons, Geoff Jones (Laurie) of Wilmington, DE and Glenn Jones (Yazmin) of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by his Grandchildren – Kim, David, Derek, Geoffrey, Bryan, Virginia, Jeremy, Jules, Emily and Great Grandchildren – Liam, Kameko, Beyla, Owen, and Jackson. A visitation will be held Saturday, January 29, 2022, from 2:00-4:00 pm at Catalyst Community Church, 410 Denver Road, Newport, DE 19804, followed by a service in celebration of Jimmy’s life at 4:00 pm. Due to pandemic protocols, masks are required. Burial will be private in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
