Joan T. Hopkins

Joan T. Hopkins, age 81, of Wilmington DE, went home to be with the Lord in Heaven on February 8, 2024. Joan loved the Lord and attending Fairwinds Baptist Church where she was a member for 45 years. She loved working on her tan in the sun, whether on the backyard porch, or on the beach. Joan loved trips to any destination, especially Florida. She enjoyed endless boat rides around Ocean City, Maryland for so many years. This was her favorite place in the summer season. Joan loved being with her entire family and always thought of others before herself. She was an amazing, dedicated and loving wife and the most wonderful mom and mom-mom or as a couple of her grandkids called her " grand ma" or simply “grams"! Joan is survived by her 4 loving children: James D. Hopkins (Jessica), David W. Hopkins (Aleshia), Andrew J. Hopkins and Lesley A. Correll (Timothy); 8 grandchildren: Keyona (Barry), Chandler (Jamie), Caidin, Ciara, Alaina, Seth, Cole, and Molly; sister, Janet Short; brother, Robert Sheppard (Phyllis); and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 49 years, James W. Hopkins; parents, Deronda & Theresa Sheppard; grandson, Dalton Garrett; and her sister, Alice "Carol" Wilberg. The family wishes to give a special thanks to the staff of Bayada Hospice of Newark for their care of Mom in her final months. And finally, and most importantly, a special and eternal thank you to Mom's personal caretaker, Michelle Scott for your endless love, care and patience with our mom that you showed every day. All of us consider you close family and will always love you. In lieu of flowers, the Hopkins family asks for donations to the American Alzheimer's Association in Joan's memory to help find a cure to this terrible disease. A visitation will be held Friday, February 23, 2024, from 10-11 AM at Fairwinds Baptist Church, 801 Seymour Rd., Bear, DE 19701 followed by a celebration of Joan’s life at 11 AM.
