In Loving Memory Joseph “Joe” R. Kunitsky of Hockessin, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 31, 2023, age 85, in the family home shared with his devout wife of over 50 years, Geraldine A. Kunitsky (née Matkins). Born on August 11, 1938, in Nanticoke, PA, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph M. Kunitsky and Mildred Kunitsky (née Belitza) of Elsmere, DE. A graduate of King’s College in Wilkes Barre, PA, Joseph became an essential employee of DuPont Company for decades leading up through his retirement. His main hobbies and interests were those that involved his sons’ extracurricular activities and spending time with his extended family. He is survived by his loving wife, Geraldine; by three sons, Keith Kunitsky (Diane), Craig Kunitsky (Bera) and Bryan Kunitsky (Gina); sisters, Sonya Protack (Ronald) and Gloria Berardi; as well as many marvelous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his uncle, Joseph Ringawa, aunt, Mary Ringawa (née Belitza), and niece, Kristin Protack. Later in his life, as his health condition deteriorated, Joseph never lost the will to bring joy and laughter to those around him. His undying love for those he knew will forever be carried forward, despite the void his absence has left behind. Joseph instilled profound wonderment and love for the world, within his family. The memories of times spent together in Bar Harbor (ME), Ricketts Glen State Park (PA) and Ocean City (MD), and other remarkable sites remain of comfort to them despite the gravity of this immense loss. An avid Philadelphia sports fan Joseph passionately watched Eagles and Phillies games at home with his sons and their friends — and shared his fondness for music and films with his family and friends.
