Lance Brian Bartel February 20, 1949 - February 11, 2022 Lance B. Bartel, age 72, of Middletown DE, passed away on February 11, 2022 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE. Lance was born and raised in Peoria, IL and was a strong and kind man who lived with integrity. Growing up as a Boy Scout, honorably ranked Eagle Scout, he gained a great love of the outdoors, enjoyed camping, and eventually became a director of the Delaware Center for Horticulture. Lance graduated from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. He spent his career in sales, working 10 years at Burroughs in Philadelphia, and 22 years as a top sales executive at Lexus of Wilmington, DE. His parents (both artists) instilled their love of art at an early age, leading to Lance’s lifelong appreciation of live theatre and visits to museums around the world. Lance also had a passion for woodworking with countless projects including his Victorian duplex in Dover, a 3-story historic brick house in Wilmington, and finally his secluded custom-built home on 3 acres in Middletown. Additionally, Lance loved spending time with his dogs. He had a deep appreciation of history and enjoyed learning and sharing his wealth of knowledge. He was incredibly intelligent and always welcomed company, conversation, and meeting new friends. Some of his most precious memories are those of traveling to over 21 countries with his wife and son. He will forever be remembered by his generosity and love to his family and friends. Lance is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Maddie Bartel; his loving son, Alexander Bartel; daughter-in-law, Samantha Bartel; sister, Alexandra Francischine; and many other family and friends that were lucky enough to know him. He was preceded in death by his adored parents, Kenneth and Mabel Ann Bartel. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, February 19 from 10-11 AM at the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702. A service in celebration of Lance’s life will follow at 11 AM. Burial will be private.
