Luana Swiss

December 18, 1940 - March 26, 2022

Born 18 Dec 1940, in Trenton, NJ, Luana Swiss died the morning of 26 Mar 2022 in the company of her hospice nurse and husband, David. Luana gave her life to Jesus Christ in 1993, was water baptized and baptized again in the Jordan River, one of her most moving moments in life. She leaves behind her beloved husband, David, several cousins, many old friends, and students. Luana was married to Ronald Bennett for 34 yrs, divorced in 1995, remarried to David Swiss in Oct 2000. Luana attended Slackwood School, Lawrence Junior High, Trenton Central HS and The College of NJ where she earned a BA in Music after studying piano as major with organ, flute and voice. Luana was chosen to accompany Stan Kenton at TCNJ, an honor she failed to recognize until after the performance. She sang in Trenton Community Chorus for 5 years under the direction of Harry Mulder, her mentor. Luana taught in NJ school system for 32 years, 1 year at Riverside HS, 6 yrs at Easthampton Elementary and 25 years at Springfield Twp. Elementary School. She also taught privately from 1962 until 2014. She was the organist in St. Ann’s Church, 4th Presbyterian Church, Trenton and later Columbus Methodist and Baptist churches. She was the organist at Willingboro Presbyterian church for 18 yrs. Most recently, she served as keyboardist and flutist at Crossroads Presbyterian Church in Middletown, DE. Luana performed with the South Jersey Wind Ensemble as a solo flutist, vocalist and solo pianist. She played for residents at the Masonic Home, Virtua Rehab, Baptist Home of NJ and most recently, Broad Meadow Rehab Center. Her hobbies included her love to travel the world having been to Europe several times, Egypt, Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, and Israel. She’d been to most states in the USA. She loved animals and home decorating. Her fondest loves in life were her husband, David; her cats, Molly and Woody; praise music, Bible study, and love for the Lord. In her best memories, she recounted her ride up Mt. Sinai on a camel, her old red barn where she lived for a good part of her life, playing Sebastian Bach’s harpsichord in Eisenach, Germany; and her 70th birthday. Secondary to these were eating crabs in Delaware, rafting on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon, and sipping cappuccino in Café Greco in Rome. She would like to think that a few people gained the love of music through her dedicated work and life on earth. A memorial service is to be held at Crossroads Presbyterian Church, 627 Vance Neck Rd., Middletown, DE 19709 on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at 12 Noon with refreshments following. Burial will be private. To send an online condolence, visit www.stranofeeley.com
