Marilyn Lila Cook

December 27, 2021

It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of Marilyn Lila Cook, age 97, of Wilmington, DE, who passed away Monday, December 27, 2021. Marilyn was born in San Francisco, CA, on August 10th, but was raised in Easton, PA, and moved to Sharpley in Wilmington, DE. As a young girl, she moved to Easton, PA, where she attended school and learned to master the clarinet and violin. In high school she was accepted in the Earl Held's All-Girl Marching Band. Marilyn graduated from Rider College in NJ with a BA in Education. She enjoyed teaching English at Woodrow Wilson High School in Easton. Later in life, Marilyn married Edward F. Cook. Together they raised three daughters: Doretta Johnson (Gary), Lila Diefenderfer (David), and Norma Cook Staffieri (Francis). Marilyn was blessed with 6 grandchildren: Jessica, Kristy, Lisa, Alexander, Larissa, and Danielle; and one great-grandchild, Samyiah. Years later she became a real estate agent with Greenville Realtors. After retiring as a real estate agent, Marilyn and Ed moved to Japan, where they lived for five years. She loved everything Japanese. Marilyn’s house was beautifully decorated with many treasures from Japan. She enjoyed working in her Japanese garden which she took pride in. Marilyn’s other interests include decorating, reading, and raising collies throughout her life. Marilyn loved to entertain. She was the "hostess with the mostest"! She enjoyed life and a good Manhattan. One of her famous phrases was “I just wanna have fun”. At five foot tall, Marilyn was as tough as nails, independent, strong, stubborn, and feisty all at the same time. Marilyn was a remarkable woman and will be greatly missed, she will be in our hearts forever. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; and her sister, Norma Mooney. The family wishes to thank everyone for all their cards and condolences. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to your local animal shelter in Marilyn's name.
